It collapsed anyway and the collapse followed the drill shaft to the surface. The salt water and diesel fuel in the cavern is being replaced with dirt and trees. The salt water and diesel fuel is now filling the sink hole. How big is a 140 Million cubit foot hole? It is a cone about 1200 ft wide and 400 ft deep. The 100 foot trees and other above ground debris mean less dirt will be needed to fill the hole. But they are going to eventually end up with a sinkhole that is between 1000 and 1200 ft in diameter. From drilling with a 14 inch drill bit the oil company peirced a salt dome. 11 barges sunk in a 10 foot deep lake. It also resulted in a 150 foot waterfall, the hughest in Louisiana's history.
