Why are (nearly) all mechanics complete assholes? | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 35337136 Canada 03/01/2013 11:20 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I go back to pick up the car and the fucking "expert" comes out and demands to know why I didn't tell him there was oil in the brake fluid, like it was my fault for not knowing. So he tells me the whole brake system needs to be replaced. That'll be another $600 or so dollars. If i don't want to do that I can just pay the $250 he already put into it for parts the car never needed. Yeah, customers are such fucking assholes and the service criminals are so nice. Fuck that. As far as I'm concerned we can hang every mechanic next to every politician when TSHTF. |

You might be a great guy (or gal) without a condescending bone in your body, but sometimes preconceived notions of a certain "group of people" appear in your mannerisms or language without you realizing it. I, for one, am an empath and pick up on those things almost immediately, and can sometimes react to them negatively if I don't catch myself. Many times, I find that these "notions" are absolutely misplaced, and the person I initially thought was an asshole or putz turns out to be a really good person - but they're simply reacting to me. If that makes sense... Within the surreal depths of "reality" lies the truth. |

I are a mechanic ... ; ) User ID: 35413867 United States 03/02/2013 01:42 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It's a mutual respect thing .You don't realize what it takes to be a halfway decent mechanic working on almost any car that rolls in ,with a wide variety of problems. And you think I know what's wrong just off the top of my head. Back in the day yea there was the big three, a few hondas and toyotas. Now you got all variety of car rolling around with CAN controller area network (read -multiple ecms linked together multiple sensor signals on the same wire) flash programming of modules for parts replacement...etc. I have my third class this week all day tomorrow for diesel , yesterday was OBD2 update, just to keep my smog license here in socal thats $350 I have to pay for ,no reimbursement from my shop, no 401k, no paid holidays, NO VACATION pay, 6 day work week. Straight commission work, I get my 40% labor only when the car is paid for. I have $30k in tools, that's tools, I didn't spring for the expensive 10k toolboxes either. And yes I am nice to people but I get burned out and might not have the best attitude sometimes, but I try . Oh and if I do make a mistake I'm the friggin devil then aint I ? You , driving your $50k bmw whining about spending $400 for brakes.I do a lot better when I work 5 days, 6 days just tweaks me, by saturday ,I can be edgy.I don't have to many easy weeks, mostly pain in the ass stuff or heavy line. But you know what , I do like it. It's not for everyone, you cant be a non hacker .I help people out every day , and at the end of the week I got a POCKETFUL of thank you's. But it's all CARma, baby. It's all good. |

User ID: 73265267 United States 04/03/2018 01:07 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have not found them to be like that. I have found them to be few in availability. There maybe some for the minor things available, not for major things. For major things they are very few here to be found. What they do takes a lot time and work, it requires tools, the shop and the skill, to use them that many others do not have. They can do machine shop/machinist work, transmission work, engine work, as well as everything else form changing the tires, to changing rotors/drums and exhaust systems, fuel systems even the spider type, and get your sticker on before your vehicle leaves the garage. I have been held back for 4 or 5 months by one, before finally giving them up, for not coming out and saying they could not do the work they said they could. They did not have the tools, the mechanics, or the shop for it. All they had to do was tell me that and I would understand it easily. Then have even a harder time finding any one else who could do it. We need more of them, when these are gone it will be terrible without them. We could use the one at work, sometimes they need to be left up and available in case big vehicles go down, they also do other work on machines and such and are needed to be on stand by. They stay busy as well. At least somebody else can make the time set aside to do it and they get paid as well. Cannot just assume someone is being an a##hole by they way they interact.
