Sorta. One of the mechanisms in normal cell reproduction is the length of the telomeres. Each time a mature cell divides, a bit of DNA at the ends of the chromosome is lost. But just as a rug has a fringe, the chromosome has telomeres; repeating nonsense patterns that can be lost without harming the cell. However, when the telomeres get too short, it sends a signal that the chromosome is in danger of getting a bad copy. When the buffers get short enough, apoptosis is programmed; the very mechanisms of replication turn upon the cell and destroy it. One of the various tricks cancer has is to avoid this clean-up mechanism -- and make itself effectively immortal -- by producing telemerase and causing the grafting new telomeres onto its chromosomes. Outside of that, however, small spot mutations are as likely to be missed by the body as not. Larger errors in DNA replication are generally caught and lead to apoptosis. The thing to remember is the DNA is replicative and the cell is conservative. A few amino acids off in an enzyme or too doesn't inevitably lead to cell death; it usually just means the cell has a little more, a little less, or a little different version of whatever it was about (whether chromatin or insulin or ADP or whatever). |

Does science reveal a series of run away mutating cells produce healthier, more sophisticated organs? Quoting: DGN Depends on how the conscious mind uses them. Depends on how aware the person is of how life works. Depends. Depends on if the person knows of the soul within and what it means to the flesh. |
