Why do we have 5 fingers on each hand? What do we use them for? The little finger? What's it's purpose? Why do so many species have 5 "fingers" too? Why not 4 or 6? [ link to g-images.amazon.com] How is that related to the evolution or the other theories Wow... Good question man... I'd venture a guess that the aliens did collect DNA from earth, and from early Australopitheceans. So, our genetic material is still "Old World Apes." Thus, us retaining the 5th digit. What was it used for and why 5 digits on each appendage? That deals with the genetics for how mammals evolved. I don't know.
