Constant connection to the outside world can keep the jackboots away. I fear what the powers would do to an isolated Quoting: Anonymous Coward 22293617 "illegal" colony. If this ever gets off the ground at all people would swarm to it. Humanity hungers for a frontier and existing states/countries don't count. Sorry Alaska! i could sort of see it working.. would be cool if it did happen |

Quoting: CalmShock How many people would be required to keep the gene pool clean of incest? What area would you colonize that can provide the basic materials needed for survival in such a desolate area? Would there be doctors? Schools? Jails? Why freeze your ass off?.. Buy an Island ..near enough to get supplies.. now make your colony... |

Ile be keen to help ^.^ Plus even trying this is a great way to destroy the broken paradigms and systems that are forced upon us. No money I like. 3D Printers. Free energy. Anti gravity unsuppressed in such a way that trumps TPTB. However I do feel they would attempt a co-op of anything serious or derail it somehow. Hopefully that would just assist in their exposure faster. |

Care to explain little details about the new form of exchange? Even when one is not doing anything, the person burns lot of kilo calories. Who will pay people for not doing anything? You would be burning calories produced by food you purchased with calories you earned at your job. There would be no "profit" to speak of. This would not be a capitalist system. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 15782258 Belgium 09/12/2012 04:28 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | your personal transport to the antarctic, by conventional means, would cost at least five times that... op, i assume you do realise what such an endeavour would cost, in monetary terms, if one needs to set up such colony with available means. i also assume you realise what it could cost with the technology you either purport or actually have in reach. why choose for traditional techniques in building the colony? it's not a clever road to success, when other paths are available to you... another thing: the whole logistics of antarctica is done by Raytheon (has been for half a century). they have the neatest and latest of 'conventional' military technology to play with, and virtually unlimited resources. if the need should arrive, how would you defend against intrusions by them? |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 22293617 Yes, as stated in the OP humans need sunlight. any humanoid that prefers to be disconnected of their local star, is very strange, to say the least. That's like saying "Its un natural to wear glasses to correct vision" Don't be Amish, embrace technology and open your mind. LEDs can output the exact same spectrum. NASA uses them to grow plants in space. |

Also please reply about the claims cheers Quoting: deano 23635749 Who cares as long as they do not threaten us, and why would they? Drones are easily disabled, just ask Iran. They are nothing more than big remote control cars that fly. Also, we would be under the ice. Hard to do visual surveillance. Regarding claims, there are still unclaimed parts of Antarctica. Regarding energy production, tesla already solved that issue. Get a cable strung between two high points / cable raised on a weather balloon and you're halfway there. |

No new claim can be made. No claim can be enlarged. I think this basically says noone shall add a colony where they feel like it, although the treaty sounds a little hmmm is the word ambiguous? |
