We had a meteor over the UK last week that was close to a -7 and it was fuckin bright.

If this shit gets -10 and above every single person with working eyes is going to know about this thing... even blind people will know about it because everybody else will be talking about it.

With the political climate in the world at the moment, some of the religious types might take this as a sign.

Comet C/2011 L4 (PANSTARRS), discovered by Pan-STARRS 1 telescope on Haleakala, Maui, on the night of 2011, June 5-6, will reach perihelion in March 2013 when it will be located only 0.30 AU from the Sun and might become a bright naked eye object ( with a peak magnitude of anywhere from +1 to -1)

I remember that, the videos are still on pages two and three here at GLP. That was a bright flare up meteor. I've seen space debris before, burning like that, it was brilliant in colors.... But that was at night !!

Cbet nr. 3238, issued on 2012, September 24, announces the discovery of a new comet (discovery magnitude 18.8) by Vitali Nevski (Vitebsk, Belarus) and Artyom Novichonok (Kondopoga, Russia) on CCD images obtained on Sept. 21.06 UT with a 0.4-m f/3 Santel reflector of the International Scientific Optical Network (ISON) near Kislovodsk, Russia. The new comet has been designated C/2012 S1 (ISON).

Comet C/2012 S1 (ISON) will get to within 0.012AU of the Sun (extremely close) at the end of November 2013 and then to ~0.4AU from Earth at the beginning of January 2014! According to its orbit, this comet might become a naked-eye object in the period November 2013 - January 2014. And it might reach a negative magnitude at the end of November 2013.

Looks like this is legit and confirmed then.

Would love to see a potential -13 mag comet, it may be a once in a lifetime sight, but the crazies wont react to this well.

So even NASA are saying this is going to be likely a negative mag threshold comet, so probably naked eye visible for sure, and the people who discovered it are giving a conservative estimate of -10.6 by September next year?

Im just wondering how big this thing will look in the sky, are we talking Hale Bopp size? but potentially much much brighter?

Who know maybe will be sun diving comet, comet will pass very close to Sun ..

Anyway we will have very nice look from SOHO-STEREO spacecrafts ..

I remember a comet not so long ago that turned many times brighter after it exploded!

Who knows maybe this one will explode when nearing the sun!

And who knows maybe it'll even come closer to the sun as it's trajectory will be more accurate as it comes closer to the sun.

Think its northen hemisphere and just in the day, you might catch it low on the horizon at dusk and dawn though.
