They now have a 'comet nuclear magnitude' of 10.0 listed here [link to ssd.jpl.nasa.gov] If you plug that 10.0 in here [link to www.minorplanetcenter.org] You get a nucleus size of about 20 kilometers. This just happens to be the 'default' comet size for Starry Night Pro. When there isn't a 'known' comet size, Starry Night uses 20 km and an Absolute magnitude of 6. Those numbers give a current Apparent Magnitude of around 17.9, which pretty much agrees with the observations here [link to www.minorplanetcenter.net] So, I'm going to say this Comet's size is around 20 km, pretty much a normal size for a Comet. Quoting: TBar1984 Sorry Jim... [link to www.jmccanneyscience.com] there is no normal size for a comet ignorant 1 |
