Direct digital manufacturing company Stratasys may have pulled the lease on a 3-D printer rented out by a group of unlicensed internet gunsmiths. But they’re all for making money by printing guns. According to internal sales documents acquired by Danger Room, Stratasys is working with some of the world’s top firearms-makers today.

According to those company documents, two “representative customers” for Stratasys’s 3-D printing machines include Knight’s Armament Company — which makes gun grips and produces its own line of firearms — and Remington Arms, the country’s largest producer of shotguns and rifles. A presentation by the company’s Direct Digital Manufacturing Group dated to January 2010 also determined that the company’s main “selling focus will be to the Aerospace and Defense Markets,” and discussed building closer ties to the military and defense industry at various Defense Department, Army and Navy expos, including an “unmanned vehicle conference.”

Settle down, guntards. "The elite" had nothing to do with this. The guy leased a 3D printer and in terms of that lease it was stated that he was not to use it to manufacture potentially harmful items. Then he goes and states that he's going to make a gun. Out of plastic. All plastic.

Think: this idiot makes an all-plastic pistol, chambers a round, fires it, blows off his hand or blinds himself or whatever. Lawyers come in, tell him he can make a few million in "damages" and the company gets sued. If anything the idiotic US legal system is to blame and the company was just covering their ass.

If the guy is that horny to make a 3D printed gun he can just buy the printer and do whatever the hell he wants with it.

Absolutely. A 12-gauge shell is actually the one type of ammo that realistically *could* be 3d-printed. Essentially it's just a plastic tube with one end covered and a hole for a primer to go in. You would just print it, pop in a primer, stick it on your loading press for powder, wad and shot and you're done.

So when you have a device capable of printing whatever object you need, why the fuck are you gonna print weapons instead of what you need?

The criminals use weapons to get what they need. Give them another method to get what they need and they'll take it.

Also if you're so worried about 3d printed guns just print some body armor.

Blocking the printing of a 3d gun is dumb and shows how stupid our government really is.

If you want to shoot someone without it being traceable, registered or taxed just make one of those old fashioned zip guns people in jail already know how to make.

Well, I had thought decades ago that home printers would revolutionize books, that you can print out all the books and pictures at home...but its still cheaper just to go to the store or Amazon and buy books and cheaper to go out and have a store make your digital prints

The 3-D is a nice gadget but never be affordable or cost effective just like home printers failed for a average household. Factories overseas will still make products dirt cheap.
