Yes, do make sure they're unflavored/unsalted. How does one determine whether peanuts are GMO? Almost everything is now, I guess. Do not feed them Alka-Seltzer in dough balls as that self-amused dickhead here suggested. |

They have a large, upright dark grey peak on the tops of their heads, and YES, they love the peanuts. We've been feeding them for years, and YES they're now almost tame enough to pick a peanut from our fingertips. We start the morning with 2-3 cups of unsalted peanuts in the shell in a metal tray fastened to the handrail of the second story deck on the house. Then we sit back and watch the jays and the Douglas tree squirrels battle it out. There are more jays, but the squirrels run full tilt at them at the tray and scare them off for a bit. Quite amusing to watch. Gets expensive though. At Costco the bags of peanuts went from $4.59 a bag up to $7.68 over the past year and a half. But we're hooked, and so are the jays. They'll come and sit in the big tree outside the living room and squawk until we come out with the bag. They hear the rustle of the plastic, and we have 6-7 there in moments. The joys of getting older and having the time to watch and be amused! |

How I found out : I kept feeding peanuts to the squirrels, and suddenly the blue jays showed up ''en masse''. They came very close to my hand in order to have a peanut. They don't mind it if the peanuts have shells. Isn't that strange ??? no its not strange and I make a whistle sound to let them know I am putting out peanuts. they like dried corn really well too. I take it off the cob, they can gather several of the pieces at a time to carry off. I have one Jay that can often get two peanuts in the shell in his beak. He picks them up sideways. |

I did the same thing:o) User ID: 50837500 United States 11/30/2013 09:49 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I bought some peanuts in the shell unsalted for the squirels but i was surprised to see bluejays sitting on my fence. I dont know how many there were or if they were the same ones coming back for peanuts. There not afraid of us it seems. Now every morning there out here screeching for more peanuts. Then on top of that the bluejays buried the peanut in my back yard like the squirels do. [] |
