I QUIT SMOKING , YOU CAN TOO. I QUIT SEPT 27, 2012, SUPPORT EACH OTHER HERE
Smoked for years and years and it was having bad effects on my breathing so trying to quit. Took Chantix for nine days, then said to hell with meds, and going it alone. Haven,t had a Marlboro for over two weeks, how -ever I do get the urge several times a day, but the urge is getting farther apart and easier to get past. Wish me luck. Maybe this can become, "SMOKERS ANONYMOUS" thread. Update, after almost three months I am still smoke free. Yes I still have the occasional urge but it goes away quickly. Proud so many have reported quitting in the many pages of this thread. Please check the following link, it is a great asset to quitting. DF [link to media.wix.com]

Today, September 27th 2013, is an important day in my life. To all of you that have been with me all the way, and for helping so many others, I love you each and every one. The road of life is full of pot holes and dangerous curves. I smoked to long, way to long, and now I am suffering some of the health issues that are direct results of smoking. For those of you still smoking, please give it up at the earliest possible time. I have no doubt in my mind I have shortened my life by at least 10 years, at least my life with good breathing and able to fully enjoy life. It is a matter of life and death. hf DF

Great for you! I smoked for many years and quit in 2001. I've found that, when I occasionally get the urge for a smoke, it helps me to swish some mint flavored mouthwash in my mouth. I know it sounds kooky, but anything that works to keep from relapsing is worth a try.
Again, congratulations

Twenty-four months for me so keep at it as it is true that the cravings do go away. Peppermint mints, gum help me.

Thanks, I never dipped, but this Chantix worked wonders while I was on it. I was almost a pack and a half a day man, I am battling the beast tho. I don't know if Chantix would work for dip.

Tried the dipping one night. I can understand how hard it was to get over it. Took few days to get over one night of dipping. Man, I never could forget the feeling of it whenever I see the can... Now... I gotta work on booze. Running and boozing definitely do not mix well... No thanks to Obama.

Great job! Keep at it. My husband stopped smoking when we decided we were going to have kids. He said it takes quite a while for the cravings to really go away. Don't give up though!

It doesn't sound kooky at all. I seem to be going for food, sweet food. It is tough I enjoyed smoking a lot. I haven't had my morning coffee since I quit, because I am afraid I couldn't fight it off. Coffee and smokes go together, just like drinking beer.

I need more time, still have cravings. maybe i wouldn't if I kept taking the meds, but they have bad side effects I am told.
 Quoting: Desert Fox

okay, here is an advice from me: when I was little, dad used to smoke a lot. In our small village, all the smokers stopped smoking but he was the only one who was smoking until he started to have breathing problems like you do. Then he stopped, and he was cheating(meaning pretendingthat he had quit when he smelled of smoke) like that! but the other ex-smokers in our village stopped because they used to buy mint candies, and suck them when they had a craving, so far everybody stopped smoking using that method.

Those candies are French candies and they are in mint.

I help you with this even if one time you said bad things about muslims (and it's not because I love ISLAM) but because I don't like hatred and my parents are "still" muslims even though I decided that was not the religion for me.
anyway, good luck to you and hopefully you will kick the habit

Thanks a lot. There must be something to the mint thing, others have mentioned mint. As for the Muslim post, I don't hate Muslims, but I do hate radicalized Muslims that cut heads off, stone young girls and such. No hard feeling toward you, and thank you for the encouragement.
