AMSTERDAM — Dutch police say seven paintings stolen from the Kunsthal museum in Rotterdam include one by Pablo Picasso, one by Henri Matisse, and two by Claude Monet.

The stolen paintings include Picasso’s “Tete d’Arlequin,” Monet’s “Waterloo Bridge, London” and “Charing Cross Bridge, London,” Lucian Freud’s “Woman with Eyes Closed,” Henri Matisse’s “la Liseuse en Blanc et Jaune,” Paul Gauguin’s “Femme devant une fenetre ouverte, dite la Fiancee,” and Meyer de Haan’s “Autoportrait.”

Paintings by Picasso, Matisse and Monet worth millions stolen from Dutch museum in one of biggest art heists in history

Seven paintings stolen in the early hours of Tuesday morning in Rotterdam
Art stolen during the heist included work by Pablo Picasso, Lucien Freud, Claude Monet and Henri Matisse
The full value of the paintings, owned by a private organisation, has not been released but is said to be millions of pounds

In 2010, five paintings were stolen from the Musee d'Art Moderne in Paris including a Picasso and Matisse and estimated to be worth a combined $124 million.

The collection was put together by the Cordia family, which made its fortune in shipping and oil and which ranks among the 100 richest families in the Netherlands, according to Dutch media.

The family is estimated to own about 330 million euros' worth of assets, according to Dutch magazine Quote, which makes lists similar to U.S. magazine Forbes's ranking of billionaires.

The Art Loss Register’s Marinello said the items taken could be worth “hundreds of millions of euros” if sold legally at auction. However, he said that was now impossible, as the paintings have already been registered internationally as stolen.
