Funny because this is the first thing I thought of too.

one fault I know of runs through CT from north to south I believe, but seismic activity is very rare I believe....the only other earthquake I remember even feeling in the 32 yrs I've been here is the one that we felt that was in DC a couple of years back

are there military bases nearby?

I'm in central Mass so I don't really know about Maine, sorry.

Anyone else in Maine not have phone cell service? Two of us here have Verizon and neither of us can make or receive calls.....texts work fine.

First quake felt in this area for me.

I felt one here a couple years ago... it was a 5.0 in Canada. I had my back sitting against the wall, and it moved like I was on a waterbed. Freaky shit.

This was just a lil' shaky poo...and I thought I was crazy until my wife's aunt across the street posted on Facebook she felt it too...and that's when it started flooding in from everyone around here on the book of face.

Definitely not an area I'm familiar with personally, having quakes of that size...

But it just proves, you have to expect the unexpected... but don't swear it's going to happen, until it does... because you just never know.

i'm in mass and i never feel these things. i didn't feel that one from VA that went all along new england either.

for clarification was there just one quake or two?

It's part of the North American Craton which has been in movement.

It borders Through Mid New Mexico, Mid Colorado, Mid Wyoming, Western Montana, Louisiana, Mississippi, Along the Appalachian Mountains, Through Mid Virgina(right through where 5.8 struck), Mid N.Y State(Where they have been reporting quakes too), into Maine(Where there have been reports of quakes also).
All of which have reported an increase in Earthquake activity. Right up along where the 5.8 hit Virginia. The quake swarms in NY State, Maine and Eastern Canada.

The quake was also felt in Vermont, New Hampshire and eastern Massachusetts and as far south as Rhode Island and Connecticut.
