I wrote this thread from the point of view of a business owner. Recently I've been doing some hiring and the caliber of people I'm encountering is disturbing. I don't comment on white candidates because they either make the grade or they do not. With African Americans there have been a few that I would have liked to hire but there is no way they could fit in.

I have to put my company first. So if individuals don't understand how to adapt to their environment and promote the image of our philosophies then they don't get a job. It is a simple skill, acting basically, to acquire. I don't understand why someone would interview for a professional position which they are almost qualified for then destroy any possibility by dressing like an urban punk and speaking with slang.

So I wrote this thread as advice. Not as a criticism. There are some people out there with great potential and they could do well by trying to fit in. I know it goes against the celebration of me me me and I'm independent but that mindset doesn't put a new car in the driveway or feed the kids.
