Broke my arm, looking for your day to day one-armed tips | |
BRIEF
User ID: 381742 United States 11/08/2012 05:07 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | As to the atrophying, when my cast got off as an adult, my doc told me to make an effort to use the arm. Lift groceries, books, anything about 5-10 lbs for about a month, don't overdo it, but use it more then you usually do. Quoting: SewDucky I'm left handed and broke my right the last time, most of just day to day stuff kept the arm from getting too bad after. 5-10 lbs is not much, but to lift that for a month is insane! I recommend doing 15 reps for three sets and then resting for awhile... I never forgive and I never forget I am a licensed firearm holder. I will, under protection of law, use lethal force if attacked. |

A cats silence, it's absence, cat heal broken bones quickly due to not having to clean it's shit bucket or having to comb the hair out of...every fucking thing, not to mention wiping up the puke at 3 AM after stepping in it on the way to take a piss, in the dark... There is all of that, but they awesome enough companions that it's all worthwhile. + Cookie |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 24599086 United States 11/16/2012 11:58 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A couple of years ago, I broke my wrist and had a cast that went to my elbow but pretty much encased my hand so I couldn't grip anything. The hard stuff was doing simple shit like buttoning a shirt. So, I put a 2 inch wide x 6 inch long piece of velcro on the inside of my arm on the cast (the "hook" part). It worked pretty good holding shirt tails so I could button the shirt, I also used the "pile" piece of velcro to cover it when I wasn't using it so it wouldn't stick to everything. You can get it in various sizes at most hardware stores. |

Fortunately, it is not my dominant arm. Quoting: JadeDone I have found tons of sites talking about the care of the cast, care of the break, itch and pain management- but few tips on doing day to day things. I'm sure over tiime I will adapt to it but I thought perhaps some of you would have things you figured out during a similar injury that you might share. Thank you in advance! Basic tip : everything you were always doing with the hand attached to that arm which is now broken, do it now with the other hand. Another one : everything you always did using two hands (and I am talking of your own hands), try doing it now with one hand. |

Last year, I was running half marathons, lots of weight lifting. I looked more like football player running half marathons. Now, I'm lazy with beer belly. |
