Doctors office has cut me off because I declined an appt with a female doctor and instead asked for a male doc.

I can sort of see where OP is coming from. I no longer want my children to see the male doctor out of the two that rotate appointments for a particular practice. I've stated this already and got smiles and nods but I predict its going to be a fun one when it comes down to making the actual appointments from now on. The male doctor is the one with no bedside manner in my situation and yes, we have seen him before. I also requested female doctors during my prenatal appointments. It was never a problem then, but they had several doctors to choose from in that department.

Hope you're able to get a doctor that you're comfortable with, OP.

Like I said before, although I'm not fond of female doctors, for myself, female gynecologists in particular, I have never had a problem taking my kids to a woman. I just don't care for the ones in that practice as I've seen both, both were rather monotone, not friendly, they weren't attentive, they were nonchalant and I didn't care for it.

My son is seeing my doc tomorrow, I will then get a referral for a pediatrician from him.

Get the name of the male doctor, then have a family member or friend call up and pretend to schedule an appointment with him for their hypothetical 'child', and see what the Doctor's office says.

How old is your son, OP? I've been told by my family doc (who is just awesome) that she's happy to see them. From what she said, she would refer me to a pediatrician if something popped up that warranted more specialized attention. So probably, since we're out of the woods on more specialized care for colds, it would mostly be if we suspect developmental delays. My sons are two and four years old. Works out well for us because this doctor is actually about three blocks away from my house. I can walk to the appointments. SO if you see a family practicioner you may be able to have them see your children as well. Works out well if you know that doctor a lot better and like them.

Yes with a different one though... What I was saying in my earlier post was to have someone else call up the Doctor's office that supposedly 'blacklisted' her and see what the receptionists says is the wait to see that male Doctor.

Did that immediately after the receptionist said I couldn't get in. Had my sister and mom call, they both got appts with a male doctor, one for tomorrow and one for Thursday. :)

I did not. At the time I didn't think I should with as mad as I was. I didn't want to get out of line with the wrong person and there's a good chance I would have.

I'm switching doctors. I wont be going back there again. I'm just gonna have my doc refer me to a good pediatrician.

I was at work, so I missed the posts where your family got appointments, when you could not. While I would agree on getting a new doctor's office is a good plan (that is messed up!), can I implore you to at least report the skanky receptionist to the office manager, or doctor, or someone? She should not be doing these things, and I am certain the doctor(s) in question would love to know why she is denying patients appointments. After all, it has now cost them at least one patient, and probably more.

OP unknowingly exposes one of the reasons healthcare is so costly in America.

Women like going to the doctor because they like having important, educated men pay attention to them. Most doctor visits by women are a complete waste of time and money.

If we made women go to lady doctors exclusively, they would only go when they're actually sick, and would save the system a ton of money.

You can bet your ass plenty of females ask for female doctors. Anyways, don't waste your time at that place. There are plenty of doctors...go to a self-employed doctor if you want a smart one.

What's the difference between a male and female doctor? As long as they are both fine doctors, it shouldn't matter.

Give the people what they want. I'm sure that many people would prefer a female doctor, so it all balances out.

They are going to nurse practitioners more often, too.

I am sure the female doctors at the office are skilled. I just didn't care for their demeanor or attitude, my child didn't either so I asked for a male doctor, he is a boy, thought it would be a better fit for him and in all my experiences with male doctors I've found them to be more caring and attentive.
