For all Obama's speaking ability, you'd think he'd be able to articulate a real vision for the country's future and perhaps put forward a budget including taxes and regulations that fit said vision. What do Americans want to achieve in the next 4 years? 10 Years, etc? He's doesn't do it though.

If he did that, then investment in various companies would make more sense. Some companies succeed and fail, so that's not a red herring in itself, but you get the feeling that in today's political climate, that EVERYTHING is political and that these companies were possibly rewarded not necessarily for their merit. I think that's what's implied in people's outrage, and it's pretty justified seeing as how utterly political everything is now and how there seems to be no real vision or plan for America..... just political favors here and there.

Bain Capital’s internal rate of return averaged 88% per year for every year that Romney headed the firm. Hypothetically, if an investor could have put in the required minimum of $1 million when Romney started Bain in 1984, and left it there for reinvestment in successive Bain funds until Romney departed in 1999, the investment would have grown to over $12 billion.

It wasn't investment. Investment is savings by private individuals or groups who risk their own capital.
