Reading Philip K Dick and the Resulting Strangeness in Reality
Once again, I have finished another Philip K. Dick book (The Divine Invasion), and once again, my reality has become stranger than normal. This happens to me only when I read Philip K Dick. Granted, his books do make you think about the fabric of reality, but I have read many authors like him and none of them affect me like his writing does.

Synchronicity sky rockets. My eyes reach a word on the page and someone unaware of the book I am reading says that exact word at that exact moment. Songs on the radio seem to be there for me, like theme music to my life. Things that happen in his books start to happen to myself, or I read or hear about those same things happening elsewhere. I feel so lucid, not only mentally sharper but my vision is sharper, like someone squeegeed my eyeballs.

My theory is that PKD did indeed tap into the source of reality and fed that information and way of thinking into his writing, so that the reader starts to pick it up and do the same.

Or, perhaps I am just as crazy as he was.

Anyone else afflicted with PKD syndrome?

I read pretty much all his stuff about 40 years ago. The last one I remember reading was "Flow My Tears The Policeman Said". He was a weird kinda guy!

I know the feeling , its like you pierce a veil or something . Things start to Sync up. For me this is a natural side effect of PKD 's work. It's not a coincidence , it occurred too many times. It happened last when i read " Martian Time-Slip " . In " VALIS " the theme of underlying this world Rome's Empire is still Alive and well , really struck a chord and creates a lot of weirdness. Maybe its the Gnostic undertones . Maze of Death & Ubik stand out for me.I know when i read "Radio Free Albemuth " next what to expect . PKD 's paranoia of Richard Nixon can easily be applied to today's presidents like BUSH and BHO.

Impressive words.
Can anybody confirm if he thought the virtual reality was created by Romans about a century after Christ? I know he had a vision he had a sort of fusion with body of Christ in glory as written by apostle Paul. He seemed to be sure it was not God's body but Christ and I don't RECALL if it was Christ's head or body. Please more details...

VALIS is a virus, a kind of metaphysical DNA that encodes the Logos or "Word" that opens the Gospel of St. John. Birth from the spirit occurs when the information plasmate "penetrate(s) the world, replicating in human brains, crossbanding with them and assisting them..."

Dick calls these hybrid humans "homeoplasmates". At one point Dick believed that when the last of the homeoplasmates were killed off with the destruction of the Second Temple by the Romans in 70 C.E., "real time ceased." The plasmate reentered human history in 1945, when jars stuffed with ancient gnostic codices were discovered in Nag Hammadi, Egypt

look into robert anton wilsons idea of "reality tunnels" and the idea of being able to "imprint" them, like downloading the blue print of someones character. i feel this happen with P.K.D for me sometimes.

Great topic. I haven't read any PKD in years, but I'll be looking for some this weekend. Thanks OP!

Re: Reading Philip K Dick and the Resulting Strangeness in Reality
I'm in my 40s. Started on PKD as an early teen circa 1982. Have a pretty much complete collection of his work here including the really bad pulp novels as well as his serious work. Took me a long while to find it all. For many years a lot was out of print.

He was a very special human being and one of the major figures of the twentieth century in any field. His writing transcends science fiction and even mainstream literature: he was closer to an Old Testament prophet than an author. Have met people who knew him and I hang on every word about him. No doubt he was all too human as a person, but when the best of the writing hits you it's something you can never forget. My top six: Three Stigmata, Maze of Death, Scanner, Flow My Tears, Valis, Ubik. Especially Ubik.

I'm impressed by that thread about acid conspiracy, different posts from there:

LSD discovered in 1947
Genocide of WWII 1940 - 1945
First detonations of nuclear weapons - 1945
Important advance in DNA theory - 1946
Dead Sea Scrolls discovered - 1946-47
"This photograph taken by Voyager 1 shows a close up of the Great Red Spot on Jupiter, a storm that has been raging in the gas giant's atmosphere for at least three hundred years. The white spot shows another cloud system that is believed to have formed around.............1940...."
Something clearly happened in the 40's^ its like a loop in time got closed and the new loop was actually 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 different loops knotted together, history sense then has been the untying of these knots.
Acid Dreams is the complete social history of LSD and the counterculture it helped to define in the sixties. Martin Lee and Bruce Shlain's exhaustively researched and astonishing account-part of it gleaned from secret government files-tells how the CIA became obsessed with LSD as an espionage weapon during the early l950s and launched a massive covert research program, in which countless unwitting citizens were used as guinea pigs. Though the CIA was intent on keeping the drug to itself, it ultimately couldn't prevent it from spreading into the popular culture; here LSD had a profound impact and helped spawn a political and social upheaval that changed the face of America.
Thus the metaphysical took the measure of, and mastered, the physical. That relationship seems by experience to be irreversible. Nothing in our
experience suggests that energy could comprehend and write the
equation of intellect. That equation is operating inexorably, and the metaphysical is now manifesting its ability to reign over the physical."- Buckminster Fuller

i purposing an in breaking of the "metaphysical" occurred sometime in the 40's, and it was a monumental macrocosmic event, one our ancestors strived to work toward, and put faith in. it was a reversal once again in a spiral in time that was spiraling inward, now it is spiraling out.
Hoffman
handles LSD in 1938 and nothing happens and then in 1943,
three months after atomic energy is released, he puts his finger
on lysergic acid and gets flipped out? What happened? Did
Hoffman suddenly get careless? Or had LSD suddenly been
changed into a psychedelic chemical? Competent chemists just
don't change their handling of compounds. Hoffman's techniques
are standard. His eyes are dancing and He's laughing and his hands and
body are moving. He was a ballet dancer once before He started
making drugs.

Now dig. The atomic fission in December 1942 changed the
whole system of energy in this solar system. The higher intelligence
decides to make a few simple changes in the electronic
structure of some atoms, and zap! We have LSD, an incredibly
powerful substance that is the exact antidote to atomic energy.
People take LSD, and flash! They get the message and start
putting things back in harmony with the great design. Stop war!
Wear flowers! Conservation! Turning on people to LSD is the
precise and only way to keep war from blowing up the whole
system."

You could very well be locked into a time loop where you are reborn into an infinite cycle where you have experienced the same shit over and over but never remember but at times it leaks into your awareness and you go oh shit, that makes sense like its happened before and it fits everything I think I know but don't really know cause its all to weird to be real but there it is.
