Kitteh was a teeny little thing, didn't even have its eyes open yet when we found it wandering in the woods. But LOUD. She was a bottle baby we named Sisu (winks at Finland) and a warrior. She crawled out of her basket and into my bed the first night and I was so scared I would roll on top of her!

I can't eat any other kind....and haven't since I was a kid. lol

FTLO - that's an Earthstove. It's from the 70s and super simple. I had to make a new baffle when we moved in..used a big hunk of metal like they use to make heavy duty truck toolboxes and it's been 7 years and so far so good. It also has a fan underneath to send the heat out into the room. I really should take it apart some summer and clean it all up. It's so noisy I rarely use it. I'm not sure if the motor is going or it just needs a lube job.

We had a baffle warp on a stove like that one Winter. Palmer, Alaska is very windy. It was difficult to regulate when it got super windy and she got a little too warm a few times. Birch burns very hot with some air.

I burn locust.
It's awesome because it will burn all night long!
and I have to really regulate the air so it doesn't get too hot.
We are on top of a hill and the wind sounds like wolves howling down the chimney on a stormy night...I love it.

Once when I was staying at a friend's cottage in Scotland on the Kyle of Tongue, there was a loose windowpane in one of the windows and when the wind came in off the sea the pane vibrated and sounded like bagpipes. I told the kiddos it was a ghost of a bagpiper and ended having to sleep with all of them piled in my bed!
