She affirmed to me that it was indeed a mercury filling. You need to ask for ceramic filling by special request. See, I had no idea. Is it cheaper to use mercury instead of ceramic? This too shall pass... |

But you need to do so immediately, mercury fillings are completely toxic and leech mercury constantly, especially after they have friction. If you haven't seen this already, here is a video showing what happens when you apply friction to a mercury filling: [link to www.youtube.com] You need to find a certified IAOMT 'natural' dentist. They are th eonly ones who will replace that filling. But be careful, alot of the people who do that are hucksters and charlatons who are terrible dentists. Read reviews and research every one of them, if you have any of these people in your area. |

Considering mercury is neurotoxin you probably should have asked beforehand what type of filling they use. ...and yes....make THEM redo it with a non-mercury filling. Amazing the FDA still allows this.....but then again...we have a 100 % corrupt FDA. |

No pediatric dentist is ever going to place a ceramic filling in a child's tooth. You must mean a composite resin filling. Furthermore, because it is much more difficult to isolate a child's tooth from saliva sometimes placing a composite resin filling is next to impossible depending on the location in the mouth. Best advice: Never submit to treatment without talking to the dentist, not the front desk staff, about what exactly is going to be done and with which materials and why. A supply-limited commodity, instantly transferable worldwide, person-to-person, is intrinsically and uniquely valuable. |

(OP) User ID: 22123524 United States 12/06/2012 09:44 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | That's shocking. Most dentists worth their salt will not use mercury fillings, especiall on a child. Someitmes parents will opt for mercury amalgam fillings because they are cheaper, and children's teeth will always fall out. But if they did this willingly, you need to change dentists ASAP. He went back into the room while I waited in the waiting room. He came out with a mercury filling! I didn't know dentists still used that stuff, my filling was white and non-mercury. Quoting: Jilly23 I know the FDA "approves" of the use of mercury, but I believe it is dangerous! I don't know, I just thought it was archaic to use it nowadays. If it is really dangerous, what can I do? Can he get it refilled by another dentist??? You should have made sure and just demanded it. and then you let them leave it in? I fell sorry for your kid. Hopefully you won't drop the ball on other health issues. You had no idea but your son will suffer for your ignorance. |

Ok guys, no need to beat up on the mom, she didn't know. I know ignorance isn't an excuse and what not, but I don't know what kind of archaic mideval dentists are still using amalgam in 2012. It should be that if you want amalgam (for whatever reason), you should have to specifically request it, not the other way around. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 28256750 United States 12/06/2012 10:02 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | FYI I take this entire situation very personal, because I grew up with a mouth packed with amalgam, and subsequently, non stop health problems until I found out it was the toxic waste that was melted into my teeth for years that was causing it. I ended up tracking down a dentist who (grudingly) replaced the amalgam fillings and I have been doing better ever since. For a child it is worse, mercury is a neurotoxin and to have it constantly being absorbed through vapor from friction or direct contact with skin is just asking for trouble. Just do whatever it takes to get that filling out of there. I woulnd't suggest going back to that same dentist, but if you have no other option, see if they will replace it (they most likley will not). If they don't, and you have no other option, get ahold of a dental explorer hook and rip it out yourself. It sounds barbaric, I know. But at least the amalgam won't be in there and they will have to replace it at that point. |

The mercury is amalgamated so the vapor pressure is very low and one single filling should only lead to very minor brain damage, and then only over a very long period of time. |

User ID: 26842649 United States 12/06/2012 10:49 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | OP, this is very sad since they have to drill more of the child's tooth enamel to get the mercury filling to stay in place than they would have with a white filling. When you have it removed (if you do) he will be exposed to a high level of mercury when they drill it out and some residue may be left or even more of the valuable tooth enamel will be lost. My kids know to call me in or just say no to dental x-rays and fluoride treatments...... The dentist should have offered you a choice--the mercury ones are cheaper. "You can bend it and twist it... You can misuse and abuse it... But even God cannot change the Truth.” Michael Levy |

I am in the process of calling around to different dentists, but I have had no luck. I'm getting the response from all of the receptionists, "Now why on earth would you want to do that if it didn't fall out?" Apparently, I may be searching for awhile... Thank you all for your comments. I just never in a million years thought that dentists still used mercury. This too shall pass... |
