I am in the process of calling around to different dentists, but I have had no luck. I'm getting the response from all of the receptionists, "Now why on earth would you want to do that if it didn't fall out?" Apparently, I may be searching for awhile... Quoting: Jilly23 Thank you all for your comments. I just never in a million years thought that dentists still used mercury. OP, you may have to lie. Dentists are not allowed to remove mercury fillings if you say you think they are dangerous. If you claim it if for cosmetic reasons you may have better luck. The Dentist can lose their license to practice if they admit mercury fillings are harmful. "You can bend it and twist it... You can misuse and abuse it... The Dentist can lose their license to practice if they admit mercury fillings are harmful. That is not why dentists would lose their license. It has nothing to do with what a patient or parent says. The problem comes from claiming to an insurance company that the filling NEEDS to be replaced. It doesn't. Find another dentist AND PAY him. Do not involve insurance. Some dentists automatically do composite these days, but some will still put the mercury in unless you specifically request composite. This is because insurance companies cover the mercury ones more than they do composite. You may have to pay a little extra for the composite. She affirmed to me that it was indeed a mercury filling. You need to ask for ceramic filling by special request. See, I had no idea. Is it cheaper to use mercury instead of ceramic? Actually, and unfortunately, the mercury fillings are the cheapest and strongest to use. I've had about 8 since I was 8 and I haven't died yet. lol. But, if you want ceramic, yes, you must ask for it. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 23699962 United States 12/06/2012 12:02 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I would like to add to this I am now 37 and as a kid i was poor and on Medi-cal. My first experience with a dentist as a kid was cool, they gave me gas and when i came around i was full of pretty metal in my mouth my mother was a holistic health nut and decided to research what was put in fillings. Years later everyone thought she was ''NUTZ'' when she claimed Mercury was in Fillings and that it would cause long term illness. I grew up believing my mother was crazy about a lot of things, but especially this...''MERCURY'' yeah right Mom! well i am sure you all have had bad experiences with bad dentist that lead you to never wanting to go back, if not good for you! but as the years went by dentist after bad dentist i never wanted to have my teeth worked on again. I was an Actress in L.a so needless to say one day i wanted all my cheap medi-cal metal fillings replaced to pretty white composite fillings. Luckly i found a nice female dentist, when i gained trust and got over my fear I asked her ''Do my metal fillings really have' Mercury' in them and she looked at me with her piercing blue eyes and simply could not lie...''YES'' and you have a lot from dentist drilling away at your moms medi-cal... TAKE THEM OUT!!!... so i did all 14 of them. I still have my wisdom teeth filled with mercury but my fear of finding a new good non-scary money hungry dentist is just too much. Now for the worst part of the composite... they fall out easy after 5 years I now have a hole in my tooth and too afraid to search once again for an Honest Dentist. I know everyone here is freaking out, but the bottom line is, if it is a baby tooth that will come out it will be ok. If a moler etc.. then eventually have it replaced, I grew up with mercury my whole young adult life , Besides being crazy my health is ok! BTW you can most def have it removed my best friend has 2 boys one of which they did the same thing she straight out gave them a mom look and said you remove the mercury from my childs tooth or i will SUE your ass for not offering an option. The dentist do NOT own us but they try! I have an Interview with a dentist not her resp. I informed her of my condition ''Panic attacks'' that she will agree to not tell me anything that is wrong with my teeth during a filling and that i will not have x- rays done and would like to see her previous work as i do not follow fake reviews...Trust me ask questions and always remember to not let them scare you rather scare them and ''ALWAYS'' as a mom stay in the room with your child! He went back into the room while I waited in the waiting room. He came out with a mercury filling! I didn't know dentists still used that stuff, my filling was white and non-mercury. Quoting: Jilly23 I know the FDA "approves" of the use of mercury, but I believe it is dangerous! I don't know, I just thought it was archaic to use it nowadays. If it is really dangerous, what can I do? Can he get it refilled by another dentist??? Unless you SPECIFICALLY tell them NO MERCURY FILLINGS...that's what they give you!! They want to insure your return to them! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 23794435 United States 12/06/2012 12:34 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I really would think long and hard about having it removed at this point. If you can imagine how much mercury will be made into an aerosol as it's being drilled, you'll know what I mean. I know for a fact that regular dentists do the procedure. I worked for a very bad dentist who not only performed the procedure, she performed it badly. She didn't use a dental dam (insist that they use one)to catch all of the mercury, and half of that mercury went onto the patients tongue and down the patient's throat. It's practically impossible to catch it all with suction, not to mention what is breathed in as it's being drilled. |

QW User ID: 27987235 United States 12/06/2012 04:48 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | FYI I take this entire situation very personal, because I grew up with a mouth packed with amalgam, and subsequently, non stop health problems until I found out it was the toxic waste that was melted into my teeth for years that was causing it. I ended up tracking down a dentist who (grudingly) replaced the amalgam fillings and I have been doing better ever since. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28256750 For a child it is worse, mercury is a neurotoxin and to have it constantly being absorbed through vapor from friction or direct contact with skin is just asking for trouble. Just do whatever it takes to get that filling out of there. I woulnd't suggest going back to that same dentist, but if you have no other option, see if they will replace it (they most likley will not). If they don't, and you have no other option, get ahold of a dental explorer hook and rip it out yourself. It sounds barbaric, I know. But at least the amalgam won't be in there and they will have to replace it at that point. I feel your pain. I can not wait to get my fillings changed after all I have been reading about mercury fillings over the last month. I had work done on my mouth by a so called 'celebrity dentist' who drilled into my 5 of my fillings and then put crowns around them... This was 6 years ago. I finally put two and two together after many years when I figured out that this was the cause of depression, anxiety, exhuastion and bad thyroid. I was total kick butt living life to the fullest upbeat person before then. So many stories of people healing after having them taken out. MercuryExposure.info is the best site Ive found on the matter. To anyone who wants them out, PLEASE go to a dentist who knows how to remove them safely ! |
