He went back into the room while I waited in the waiting room. He came out with a mercury filling! I didn't know dentists still used that stuff, my filling was white and non-mercury. Quoting: Jilly23 I know the FDA "approves" of the use of mercury, but I believe it is dangerous! I don't know, I just thought it was archaic to use it nowadays. If it is really dangerous, what can I do? Can he get it refilled by another dentist??? you can make him redo the filling, having a person around with mercury fillings not only effects that person, but also effects those in close proximity to the person. It produces a mercury vapor with every breath. |

User ID: 381742 United States 12/06/2012 04:55 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I would be more concerned as to why he needed a filling to begin with...I nor any of my children have ever needed a filling... Quoting: BRIEF In my case it was pure greed on the dentist's part. Parents had money - greedy dentist. I have a dentist friend and he doesn't do that to people...my son had a bike accident and the ex-wife took him to her dentist. They wanted to do all kinds of dental work that he didn't need...I take him to my dentist, full set of x-rays, the whole 9 yards and the Doc says he's fine but should brush a little better on the back teeth...that's it! I never forgive and I never forget I am a licensed firearm holder. I will, under protection of law, use lethal force if attacked. |

I also remember rubbing mercury on quarters because it looked cool. Perhaps I would have been a genius without the heavey metal exposure...........I suppose I'll never know. Some people just have better/stronger teeth than others. If it is in fact just a cavity filling they can easily pop it off of the tooth and replace it. Just don't freak out about it, there's no need for getting upset..... it's not a death sentence. Ominous regressions One Truth... many realities |

User ID: 5175092 United States 12/06/2012 05:06 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If you want to get that filling out of your kids head take him to an oral surgeon and tell them its causing him discomfort and sensitivity to foods, they will pull it out. If you don't have any type of dental insurance, get some, a single family plan for dental covers specialists other than orthodontics and is causally 25-45$ a month. 95% of the time you are told anything by a dentist it is a lie. Go to an oral surgeon, the only thing you should ever go to a dentist for is a routine cleaning. Dentist are typically not doctors or M.D.s they are a DDS. It is a very very different training background. Those dentists that are MDs are often the bad apples of the military doctors as it's an easy job to get. If you want quality dental work, go to an oral surgeon or a maxiofacial doctor as these are the guys who are actually trained on the bone structure and problems with teeth and have the expertise and knowledge not to cause more damage than you need. Alot of dentists can't even properly identify a cavity vs simply a discoloration. I have Bicuspid molars, something that not many people have and when I went to a dentist they thought I had growths on my teeth and wanted to pull them.... I was with someone along time that started off as a dental technician and eventually became a surgical tech for an oral surgeon and it was mind blowing learning about the dental field. Most dentists are about as qualified to do actual work on your teeth about the same level as a a school nurse could perform a blood transfusion. I know they are some good dentists out there, especially in small towns etc where they are the only ones around and they have to know how to do these things. In large cities and chain dental companies tho, STAY AWAY they have the highest malpractice and patient unhappiness numbers of any medical profession. Screw you, I'm from Texas. |

I am in the process of calling around to different dentists, but I have had no luck. I'm getting the response from all of the receptionists, "Now why on earth would you want to do that if it didn't fall out?" Apparently, I may be searching for awhile... Quoting: Jilly23 Thank you all for your comments. I just never in a million years thought that dentists still used mercury. OP, you may have to lie. Dentists are not allowed to remove mercury fillings if you say you think they are dangerous. If you claim it if for cosmetic reasons you may have better luck. The Dentist can lose their license to practice if they admit mercury fillings are harmful. That's how I did it - claimed it was cosmetic (told them I was going to start singing in the band and didn't want all those old cavities revealed, lol) and paid all the money insurance wouldn't cover - funny, haven't been really sick since then. [link to www.dentalwellness4u.com] They'll need to extreme measures to take out the filing he just got & then put in a non-mercury one. Do a youtube search for "The Smoking Tooth", you'll see exactly how dangerous it is. My husband is getting a crown removed that has mercury holding it in place this month.
