On a typical meteor shower, the average meteor is the size of a pea.

So, an asteroid is discovered on the 9th and will come by on the 11th... that's only 3 days notice.

Who's to say a bigger and more devastating one won't show up before the 21st (or sometime soon)? All of these scientists who say that if something were coming to destroy us that we would see it by now are full of it...it could happen, despite what they say - they don't know everything.

By the way, I also saw the flash last night (it was like lightning in a clear sky).

2012 XE54 was discovered yesterday on December 9th.
It is a small 36 meter Apollo class near earth object.
It makes it's close approach between Earth and Moon...

It will pass through the Earth's shadow, a very rare event.

Events seem to be clustered at 20,000 year intervals, not millions. Remember, the face of the Moon we see always faces Earth, yet is covered with craters except for the lava flows. We have an atmosphere so we have erosion, otherwise we would look like the Moon or worse. For us to leave the survival of the human race exclusively to Earth habitation is beyond irrational or suicidal. It is incomprehensible thinking beings would not do everything in their power to build a sustainable colony off planet. If nothing else they could play Adam and Eve and repopulate it after the atmosphere clears. Otherwise humanity risks joining the dinosaurs.

World won't end on December 21: NASA scientists


Quashing the 'doomsday' rumours, top NASA scientists have assured that the world won't end on December 21, 2012.

"The world will not end in 2012. Our planet has been getting along just fine for more than 4 billion years, and credible scientists worldwide know of no threat associated with 2012," NASA said on its website.

On danger of Earth being hit by a meteor in 2012, scientists said that NASA astronomers are carrying out a study called the Spaceguard Survey to find any large near-Earth asteroids long before they hit.

So, on one hand, he is saying that there is no threat but on the other hand he is saying that they have this committee setup to look into asteroid impacts and that there is a chance we have asteroid impacts but they wont be as large as the ones that made dinosaurs extinct?

If indeed anything does occur, it will be interesting that it just so happens in the very month and year the Mayans and ancient cultures speak of? Consider also the pope's statement about "Stars falling from the sky". Seems they are saying somethings might hit this december. Hmmm!
