Around 1946-48 there were born some interesting psychopaths.
Reason is that Saturn, Mars, Pluto were in Leo.

The babies born then had some seriously deep/dark imprinting by those celestial energies.

I took classes in Criminal Profiling and learned enough to quit because it shook me to the core. I couldn't handle the ugliness of what humans were capable of. Disturbing but fasinating.
Anyway. The woman who taught those classes was a retired profiler who insisted that Saturn, Mars & Pluto were an influence that should be included to assess the criminal.

Can you describe what it means to be a psychopath?

It seems many people have different descriptions.

Thanks.

The one description I have always heard was emotionless, and without a conscience.
 Quoting: *HEISENBERG*

As a scientist, or a victim in retrospect, I can see how you can use those descriptions. But if you knew a true psychopath on a casual level, he comes across of empathetic, not overly so, but we aren't an overly emotional group of people in Australia.

What would you do if you did?

This person is would not be an emotional manipulator . His manipulations use all tools, and are hidden.

He may or may not be dangerous at this time. He would be a true psychopath, not made, somehow formed.

He still has a high prestige career, and living the high life, leaving broken lives behind him.

If you were aware and he wasn't yet, could you use his tricks against him?

well in reference to your last comment where you said " if you were aware and he wasn't yet " they say crazy people don't know that they are crazy but i beg to differ.

a girl i dated years ago turned out to be flat out nuts and she knew she was nuts. lol

she was very manipulative, very scheming, could lie like no other person ive ever met and completely keep track of all her lies. she had a vulgar mouth on her worse than most guys and was violent as hell.

she was a cutter and tried to kill herself multiple times in multiple different ways.

i tried to help her all i could but after a year i couldn't do it anymore.

i sincerely think she was evil or possessed, it was very obvious she took joy in hurting others as well as animals.

needless to say getting rid of her wasn't easy.

Yes, one can learn to recognise them.

No, you cannot out wit them.

You can only do everything within your power to stay away from them.

No, you cannot stop them.

You can only convince them to seek other prey.

We are all meat on the hoof to them, nothing more.

The best one can do is to convince them we are not easy prey.

I went to school with one ... there was always something off about him, when he got older he became an arsonist and then graduated to a murderer
He ended up dying in prison but scary scary stuff especially when I think about the last time I saw him he had already killed a girl and nobody knew it yet.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 5609223

What if he were a different type of psychopath? What if there were ego there too? What if his life was a success and not a failure? How different would his mania be?

Childhood psychopaths are these people. They are the shining stars because they work out parents, teachers, friends, work mates, employers. They are very popular. However, his homelife is chaos. Instead of suffering as a child damaged by chaos would normally do, he becomes a beacon to his parents. His mother probably at her wits end with the children fighting, and having no help, or means to stop it, usually hooks onto the psychopathic child, as they seem easier to reason with, and they are strong, the psychopathic child then holds the mother, as a pawn and as a trophy (depending on family dynamics), as he still creates chaos and tension amongst other siblings. As she leans on him more and more he starts to control at a bigger level than a child should. Before anyone knows whats happening, he has control of the whole family, but he is the shining star, not the parent. Everything is in control. His family is where he wants them, and now he moves on to his schooling and friends.

It's a madness, because it does not find a safe place to stop. The psychopath may or may not see everything in the same pattern or 'concept' as his family life. As a means to get things to fit into that concept, he might walk in a room and create chaos. Instead of getting involved in an emotional level, as the other people are doing, he will look at the dynamics of it he wants to recreate the same tension and dynamic as he had in his family, as this is where he originally found his power. From that point he roots, and grows. just the same pattern over and over of creating chaos so that he sits comfortably in a situation, and is in his most power.

Sounds like borderline personality disorder to me. I was married to one for a bit.

Funny thing. She asked for a divorce and moved out, then when I started dating again, she freaked and decided she couldn't live without me. Broke into my house when I was out and wrote love messages on the bathroom mirrors, poored maple syrup in the dresser drawer I gave my new girlfriend to put her overnight stuff in and kept driving by the place.

When I remarried, it really set her off. Needless to say, the wife and I both have conceal-carry permits.

psychopath's have no ID development. They can not therefore understand other people's feelings, thoughts and emotions. Their Ego is however highly developed and they only think of themselves.

Re: Have you come across a person who may be a true psychopath....
Yep. I knew two of them. One was 5 years old and the other was 9 or 10 years old. Manipulative little beggars with absolutely no remorse when caught out. Compulsive liars and not above threats of harm to others to keep their secrets. Charming as hell if they thought it would get them what they wanted. Both had their parents wrapped around their fingers. In the case of the 5 year old, it became eveident as you talked to the parents that they were terrified of the kid, but never able to admit it dirctly. Still, they did everything he wanted them to do for him, including defending him to the death when he trashed a classroom full of computers because he did not get his way with the teacher. Naturally, it was the teachers fault that he got angry enough to trash the room and force evacuation of the other kids, not something wrong with his over the top reaction. He was 5 years old, for goodness' sakes!

These kids would be 18/19 and the younger one would be around 12 years old by now. I often wonder what they are up to, what trail of destruction lies in their wakes...

Re: Have you come across a person who may be a true psychopath....
My mother is a psychopath. I grew up with a crazy making mother but had no idea this wasn't normal. It was years later when I realized I had married a man exactly like her that I knew.

Just as a child will marry an alcoholic spouse never understanding what they were doing.

My exhusband was ordained with a doctorate in religion. His peers considered him an enigma. As a good christian woman I stayed with this man for many years. Miserable years. At the end of this marriage he made an attempt on my life which I survived. Still......he got away with it and could never be proved.

These are damaged people. Some can be dangerous and others only causing emotional pain.

I'm now mostly a hermit. My story is so horrible that I do not want to tell it to anyone, so I am outwardly friendly but keep to myself.

Re: Have you come across a person who may be a true psychopath....
I have a close family member who fits this discription. I would never declare them to be a psychopath though, as I am not a trained professional.

I can only say that this person gets a sort of perverse joy out of wrecking havoc within the family. It is as if this person cannot tolerate peace and harmony. She always has to create drama, chose one person to attack, and demand that the rest of the family join in her abusive treatment of her current victim.

It took many years to realize that she will never change and that the best and only defense is to put her completely out of my life. I would not rule out obtaining a restraining order to KEEP her out of my life if need be.

Could you use his tricks to outwit him?

His "tricks" would be like entering into a power play that could easily escalate the chaotic mental orchestration. The psychopath would recognize the game you are using to try to undermine or control him.

I wouldn't try to use his game to outwit him even if you are more intelligent or even if you area a great subversive actress.
There may be times to use his game to get what you want but it would exhausing to stay in that frame of mind.

I'd use the tried and true behavior of Non-Reaction.
Display a flat affect to his attempts to sway, dominate or lie. Have a pre-prepared list of things to say to diffuse his words or behaviors, such as;

"I'm sorry you feel that way."
"Thats too bad."
"Uh-uh. I see."
Just neutral statements. Nothing more.

Deflect his wiley ways to mundane activites or change the subject.

"Is Survivor on tonight?"
"These cabinets are awful. I think I'm going to paint them."
"Geez. Look at what the neighbor kids did to that garage door."
Anything. Anything at all to STOP his command of the situation.
He won't like it. But you'll not have entered into his world of crazy-making.

I dunno. If you had a specific incident as an example it would help define what kind of psychopath you are describing.

Re: Have you come across a person who may be a true psychopath....
I've known several actually. The one I grew up with was from a very abusive home. Back in the 1950's, abuse wasn't dealt with as it is today. A drunk driver was simply sent home to "sleep it off". My childhood friend eventually ended up in prison for murder. He was deemed "cured" some years later and released. He was a model prisoner and became a crackerjack clockmaker and was highly liked by many. As soon as he was released, he murdered again.

I've known some in "reform school" where I worked. Some just cannot be rehabilitated. Almost all of the ones "labeled" with these kind of personality disorders went on to be either killed in prison or sliced so bad they were disabled for life.

One sociopath that I befriended about a decade ago was injured in a car accident and had a plate in his head. Almost every bone in his body was broken and he literally had no emotions. He told me he lived in a "corner world" where he could almost act normal until he went around the "corner" and immediately "forgot" what had transpired in the few moments before. He had a HUGE reputation for not being "reliable" and just stray off in the middle of things. I had to literally teach him from scratch how to get to know a woman. He had been molested and abused for years and simply did not know how to function socially or sexually. Even his own family used him in ways that were reprehensible. He had never had a friend in his life who attemped to show him how to live. For several years, I had to show him things that most of us take for granted. To make a long story short, the last time I saw him, (about a year ago), he looked happy and "normal", well dressed...and married to a very nice person. I was so happy for him. Even psychopaths have their story. None of us are born that way. Who can understand the young woman I once knew who ended up in a psychiatric institution for drowning two of her children in scalding water. She was eventually realeased too--only to drown her remaining two children. I won't even PRETEND that I can wrap my mind around that one.

It's not a good idea to try to out game them at their own game as the ability comes naturally to them but not to you, so you'll always be at a disadvantage.

yes...i lived with one as a domestic partner for a year, ended up putting him in prison, learned the BIG difference between sociopath and true psychopath....psychopathy is in fact genetic so one way to tell is if there is a (usually) male figure in the family, father, grandfather, psycho loser criminal record etc. but if your person is true psychopath, they will have lies set up about family.

He still has a high prestige career, and living the high life, leaving broken lives behind him.

If you were aware and he wasn't yet, could you use his tricks against him?
 Quoting: Aunty Flo

YES. however, it's dangerous. they have a HIGHLY developed reptilian mind, an intuition for 'plots,' they are always very very suspicious and it really takes a strong person to play the game and get to safety because you have to THINK like they do...it is HORRIBLE. it took me several months just to purge the sense of toxic taint in me.

feel free to ask me stuff. also check out

Second comment is right.
It's difficult to realize that some people have psychopathy at birth in the same way that others have spina bifida.
