Blame it on the parents. If they want to sit their kids in front of a TV for six hours a day and not even explain to them the difference between fantasy and reality, that's their bad. Shitty parents raise shitty kids. Wait...what? |

User ID: 20816248 United States 12/14/2012 05:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm an adult who's been playing video games since the age of 5. I've never killed anyone or even gotten into a fight. I'm not angry nor do I want to hurt people. When I did learn how to shoot in real life, I found the experience I had in modern realistic games had little to no effect on my ability/accuracy in real life. I don't buy your theory. My students had behaviorial and learning issues and many on medications such as ritalin to help them focus. The brain is very programmable at that age and video games can be a retreat from reality. No one really knows the long term impacts of the medications yet. I'm just suggesting that the video games not be so violent. I just think it's wallowing in Gore. Who writes these games? What if all that creativity and energy went into something productive like solving problems? The military recruites from advertisements on these game sites so they know that players are drawn to the battlefield and like violence. What if the goal wasn't to destroy but create? I realize I 'm on a conspiracy site and my ideas will be shot down. I would like to think humanity is evolved from this stage into something else. The kids are literally saturated with violent media and we are seeing the first generation of addicted realistic battle video game players enter their adulthood having marinated in that $#@& from day one. Next mass murderer will be on psychiatric drugs with an IEP hooked on video games in mom's basement. We know the drill. I'm just looking for a pattern. ruser |

Speak the truth and everyone who LOVES KILLING..either in virtual reality or in real lifes..GONNA HATE ya. They WANT their doom...they NEED to kill and KILL and KILL AGAIN. Given the chance...all those who SAY they would not actually DO it..well..when they see society going nuts..and they have a gun..SUDDENLY..every trick they learnt in those games will come flooding back..and the SAME cold unfeeling way they pulled of headshots in the game will be played out in real life..except...there are NO respawn points in real life..and no powerups..medkits..or upgrades. |

(OP) User ID: 2275761 United States 12/14/2012 05:52 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The question is this. When did these school shootings start? What did all the murderer's have in common? I understand that my theory might be flawed and not hold up in a court of law. That is why I chose a conspiracy site to post this idea. There is no way to prove it or stop it. It's a free country last I checked. ruser |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 7570540 United States 12/14/2012 06:18 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Come on people - this has been studied to death and yes, violent video games "can" have a negative impact on the player. Violent video games are associated with higher levels of aggressive behavior and thought. They are also associated with a decrease in prosocial behavior and concern/empathy for others. This is more so with video games than with TV, even, because the video games are interactive and often require the player to identify with their character. Look at it this way - if you guys watch a porno flick are you aroused? Do 15-year-old girls who read Cosmo begin to dress and act in a manner past their age? Do commercials for snack foods make you want to get a snack? Does working for a bad boss make you fantasize that he steps out onto the street in front of a bus? There is a cause and effect to most things we do, after all. But, the video games is only part of the story. If you are a stable person it will have merely a little effect. If the person is less emotionally stable, it can have a huge effect. Look at gun owners - 90% are fine. Those other 10% draw their guns in rage when somebody cuts them off in traffic, use their guns to intimidate others, use them for crimes, accidentally shoot their children sneaking back into the house at 2:00 a.m., go into a school and shoot little kindergarteners, etc. It's all relative to the individual - that person's upbringing, environment, and mental health. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1305525 Russia 12/14/2012 06:42 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I worked in the High School System from 2003 through 2009. Violent video games have a major impact on mental health. Everything was fine before these games came on the scene. Quoting: ruser (I'm on a Kindle so can't type too good). Who are writing these games and marketing them to young males? My male students spent hours on these games and they rot the brain. These games are all about shooting and killing blood and guts. They are getting more and more lifelike and are altering brain chemestry especially in young males. These video games are causing kids to loose it. Good games including first person shooters are about strategy and execution. Everything is altering your brain chemistry. There is nothing to worry about. |
