The odds of being in a school shooting are about a million to one in any given year. The odds of a kid being able to remember to use their bulletproof back pack in a timely fashion is about one in ten. *Unless they run drills in doing just that regularly. Then, the method of use will stop one shot. The bag will be ripped from the hands of anyone trying to hold it, especially a child and they will be left on the floor, knocked down. So they can't even run away from a gunman that's already shooting at them. A better technique? If you hear shooting, run away. Head outside, and don't lock yourself in a windowless room. Get out and run as soon as possible. All the data has shown that the highest survival rate for people in a mass shooting is for those that flee. The only time that a bulletproof backpack would be really useful is if the person with it were planning to rush the gunman. OR if they're wearing it and get shot in the back, say as they run away? |
