No body is recalculating. The professionals who are IN CHARGE of the PHYSICAL calendar artifact have ALWAYS said it was DECEMBER 23rd. Well, maybe the media in the states need to report the truth.

When I first heard about that Mayan calendar things which was a decade ago, it was stated it is at 23rd!

Somewhat entire media hyped about 21st! just because it was 12-21-12 and looked better to have fun into!
That calendar is made in honour for God of Nine Pillars ( Nine Planets ) and not a God, more like ruler alien, which promised to come at that date.

So what did these OGs of the Mayan calendar calculations say will happen? If they are the most accurate in deciphering the date they should be the most accurate in knowing what will happen..

It makes sense, the planetary and galactic alignments have always been lined up on the 23...look at any astronomy program or better yet, use a telescope

Well you are all wrong. The cycle ended in 1988. If this "expert" really understood, she would see that:
1. The date 4 ahau 3 kankin can only occur once every 52 solar years.
2. That the date Kankin happens in April, the driest season in the Yucatan, thus the name Kankin (yellow or old sun).
3. That the only solar year that this date can happen in is the year 2 etznab, which last occurred in 1988 and won't happen again until 2040.
4. That it's easy to date the solar year because we know for a historic fact that Cortes arrived in 1518/19 which was documented as the year 1 Ben in Maya lands and 1 Acatl in Aztec lands. This is significant because the only reason they didn't kill Cortes and his men on sight was that they believed he could be Quetzalcoatl, since the year in course was the same year he was supposed to return
5. That the year 2 etznab, the only year where the date 4 ahau 3 kankin - the cycle end date can occur is the year following 1 Ben, which means that if the cycle didn't end in 1988 (it did, the ceremony was held by the very few that still keep the time records in secret) it can't happen until 2040.
