Atheists are not irredeemable, and atheism is not some special, horrific unpardonable sin. I would imagine that a disobedient Christian would be in worse standing than an atheist.

I think the key lies in whom Jesus criticized.

It was not the Roman pagans. It was not the prostitutes. It was not the thieves. He was kind to the man on the street who was snared by error and sin and came to heal, edify, and set people free.

Jesus targeted the money changers in the temple and the self-righteous Pharisees who led the people astray. That is whom he condemned.

In the last days, these evils will manifest themselves as the mark of the beast and the harlot.

Money changers in the temple = mark of the beast (without which you cannot buy or sell) defiling the human body (the temple)

The Pharisees who brought Jesus before Pontius Pilate to be crucified = the harlot church, false prophet uniting with the beast system to persecute Christ's followers.

We do not fight against flesh and blood. Our enemies are spiritual powers and principalities. Stop picking on the poor guy standing next to you. Despite his lifestyle or beliefs, he is not your enemy.

The problem here is that you measure the opinions of "atheists" according to your superstitions. As atheists do not adhere to your superstitions, this is invalid. It is measuring apples against oranges. Your superstitions and the implications of them only apply to you personally.

My comment was in regards to the OP's post, and I'm assuming the OP is of the Christian persuasion. Atheists are free to jump in, of course, but my post was not aimed at unbelievers.

How we treat each other always has more to do with our own beliefs than the other person's beliefs.

I do not view atheists negatively. I understand the atheist viewpoint better than most believers, having been raised by an atheist mother and being an atheist myself for the first 20 years of my life.

Maybe that makes me even worse in your eyes. Do you think I jumped off the bandwagon of logic and science to embrace superstition? I didn't. It's just not that simple and also not as illogical and unscientific as some folks might think.

I'm a stoic person by nature, not swayed by emotion or theatrics. I'm inquisitive and don't accept "because I say so" as a viable answer. Regarding spiritual matters, I don't rely on human intermediaries and their interpretations. I've gone straight to the source and found that God is not a magical Santa Claus in the sky. He is a genius, far more advanced than we are, and the ultimate scientist.

I wish there were words to do justice all the things I've discovered and learned from Him. There is just so much more to all of this, and words fall too short.
