How effective do you consider .22LR for self defense at a distance of 100yds or less, specifically high velocity hollow points? Many consider it as a plinking round or for varmint hunting, yet ballistics tests on these hollow points have shown similar expansion and penetration to a .38.
Quoting: Generation Doom I love shooting my Ruger 10/22. It is a great range gun, and a great Survival gun do to the fact that ammo is cheap and you can carry a lot of it on you. If I had my choice I would want something with more take down then the 22, but on that note it the proper hands and with well-aimed shots it can be lethal. Quoting: USMC0369 I wouldn't want to be shot by a .22. True, not as certain to get the job done, but for petite women, we can't handle stronger weapons. True. Quoting: cowardlyMe 20395699 Not true with the proper training and mindset a women can shoot a much bigger handgun then a 22. The 22 is a great starter to learn the fundamentals and not be afraid to shoot, but I recommend moving up to at least and 32 Auto or a 380.
