FLORIDA- People are breaking mailboxes and stealing packages.... Who do i talk to?

If you can't get any help from the Post Master I would call the sheriff, they wont leave him on hold for an hour. It's horrible trying to get the P.Office to do anything, I had a situation where I needed to speak to the Post Master, forget about it.

Besides, it's theft and the cops should know. I would call them and file a report.

Go down and see the postmaster in person.

I'm going to have to file a report, not just for myself, but for all that vandalism done to so many.
I gave myself the worse headache yesterday, just watching how everything was pried open and people complaining, they just don't do anything about it. They just bitch.
I'm sure not only are they looking for drugs, but they're looking for any store gift cards, etc.

This is too much, and its a freaking federal crime!!!!!

Tampering with the mail is a federal offense. Call the Sheriff and report it. Ask the Sheriff to contact the postmaster. If all else fails, go public and contact a local t.v. station. They'll investigate.

I'll bring over my BB gun.

You need to get this as much attention as possible. I agree with the poster that suggested you contact the media if all else fails.

People are depending on their meds, etc. Hopefully they'll catch the culprits and put them away for a while. Can you ask your mailperson/delivery person to ring your bell when they deliver? This way you'll have a heads up before anyone can get to your stuff.

I will report this to the sheriff dept.make a complaint. Do a stake out with a neighbor and film the guys!!!!!!!!!!!sweet.

As you said, messing with the post is, I read once, a federal crime. And if not, it's still vandalism on a large scale.
A question: you are talking about those mailboxes that are placed near the curb like I see in movies all the time, right?
I never got that. Here in the Netherlands, and in Germany e.g., the mail is deliverd to mail-slots INSIDE the frontdoor or the building itself. No breaking them open without committing braeking & entering at the same time.

But, as the post had been dilivered into the mailbox, I don't think the postmaster has anything he could or would do. It's not his job, his buck stops when the post is delivered.

So...go to the police..

If only I had one...but I don't trust myself..you know??!

Get yourself a locked cast iron mailbox.

Get a mailbox at a pack and ship center. Your mail will be secure and by using a private facility over the post office you can receive UPS, Fedex, etc there too.

No more stolen anything.

Same thing here. I kept one eye on the box every afternoon (after delivery) and caught 'em in a few days. Talked with the young kid's parents and no more problems (so far).

what a dumb question. when is destruction of property and theft not something that you'd want to inform the police of? besides, these are federal offenses in this instance since it involves the mail.

people use to think mailbox baseball was fun , until one of the neighbors made a box out of cement, wonder what that felt like . rapping that thing with an bat at 10 mph lol

OP, Try to call the police, it may help to set up a video camera to possibly catch the person doing it on video..

Ok I called the Sheriff in Polk County. He says he will get to the bottom of it.
He's sending deputy cars the same time mail is delivered and will also talk to the bigwigs at the home owners association.

I will be there. I want to make sure something is done TODAY.
