Anyone ever use this method for Canna Oil extraction?

Browsed the article, that will work. Seems very detailed and possibly more work than is actually required, but it will work if you wanna follow the recipe.

The simple way is the best way.

Rubbing alcohol, a freezer, a Mason jar, and a double boiler.

That tutorial is kinda confusing, I assume she's making some kind of food to consume her canna oil.

This is an alcohol extraction, not an oil extraction. The OP referred to an oil extraction.

Obviously the op will not be SMOKING this. And yes butter or canola oil will work fine. THC is oil soluble. As an oil it can be ingested straight up ( a few drops at a time ) or used externally as a topical for pain and swelling relief. Perhaps you shouldn't be offering too much advice to the OP if you don't know what you're talking about.

OP, check out the method I mentioned first online, simple clean and easy, takes a couple hours total.

Just make sure you VENTILATE the alcohol fumes.

The tutorial on that site is using theirs for cooking, brownies, cookies, etc.

See what? You can ingest oil, cook with oil, use it as a topical. Your method is for an ALCOHOL extraction. Not an OIL extraction. Apparently you don't understand the difference between the two. I assure you there is a difference. Alcohol will evaporate leaving you with a thick gummy substance that is more like soft hash, usually meant for smoking. Oil will not evaporate and will leave you with a liquid extraction that you can ingest a few drops of, basically a simpson OIL. And I guess you don't understand that the word OIL <> Alcohol.

If you do go with an alcohol extraction, make sure you get the highest percentage of alcohol available for the extraction, anything below 90% is not going to work very well. A good alcohol tincture can be made from trim and twigs and something that is at least 160 proof. Which would be 80% alcohol, and the kind you can ingest. Rubbing alcohol can be used but must be evaporated off. You don't want to ingest any of that. But still, I believe the OP is referring to an OIL and not an Alcohol extraction.

Kind of a waste, why not make hash oil and smoke it?

OP here is the method I use in case you care. 1 pound of butter, several ounces of trim or popcorn buds. No sticks or twigs. Chop it up finely but don't lose any of that powder, try to chop it in the vessel you will cook with.

Now turn on your stove burner and throw ingredients into a large pot. Cook on low heat, never bubbling, for several hours. Stirring occasionally until your butter turns a darker brown/black color. Some water will evaporate, that is ok. A good cook is at least 6 hours long on low heat. Now decarbolization is something that can occur naturally in properly dried/cured weed. Or you might want to speed it up, that is a whole other discussion.

6 hours minimum has gone by, turn off the heat let it cool but before it turns into a solid run it through a strainer (cheesecloth works fine). Squeeze your extract into a final vessel. Put it in the fridge and you'll see it separate after a few hours (if you used butter). You can scoop the top off. If you used oil no further refining is necessary. Butter will become a solid in the fridge, but the oil will remain a liquid.

Recently I've been experimenting with a Dry Ice extraction, very cool stuff. But more for smoking. I suppose the kief could be then turned into an oil, and it would be a very pure oil. But I havn't done that yet.

Because ingesting it can help different people better than smoking it. Not everyone is like you. I'm sure the OP doesn't think it is a waste.

Look up Master Woo's Green Dragon or Wild Will's Tincture. I have it on good authority Master Woo's followed exactly and using Everclear is very effective orally.

Never use rubbing alcohol unless it is for external use. 190 proof grain is safer, you can reclaim it if you like.

Yep NEVER use rubbing alcohol. Use either clear 151 or
Everclear. Everclear (stronger) seems to extract the THC better. Last batch was made in Dec.

Key is NO SHORTCUTS

Most helpful tool is the digital thermometer. And it can make the house smell so if that's a problem pop a bag of popcorn. I live in an apt. so couldn't do it at my place. :)

Ingredients:
1/8th oz good quality "active ingredient"
2 oz clear Bacardi 151 or Everclear

Equip:
*Coffee Grinder
*Cookie sheet lined w/alum foil
*Cooking pot or double boiler
*1 med sized canning jar
*A good digital candy thermometer ($15 at Target)
*A way to strain the liquid out. Use a tiny fine sieve strainer and garlic press or cheese cloth (don't use fabrics ie: tshirt that have a wicking effect.)

Grind active ingredient fine. Spread on lined cookie sheet and place in oven @ 325 for 5 minutes to change molecules from THCA to THC. Remove from oven and place in jar with 2 oz of alcohol. Fill double boiler or pot with water- the level should measure half way up the jar. Set jar in water bath. (If using a pot only- a canning basket/small cooking rack to keep the jar from sitting on the bottom of the pan is needed. Direct heat often cracks the jar.) Heat water till solution in jar reaches 170 degrees (or within a degree or 2) for exactly 20 mins. Remove jar from pot and strain either with cloth or with a strainer and back of spoon then follow up with a garlic press.

Tincture should be an emerald green color. It's ready to use right away!! Use one or two eye dropperfuls under tongue. These directions have worked the first and every time. Using Everclear really increased the potency.
