February 16 2013 - Evolution of an asteroid's impact..
A dream, if you will, even if I'm fully aware that the chance of an actual impact is next to nil.
However I wrote this as soon I woke up this morning.

Feb 16 2013 9.45 AM

There I was taking a stroll in the park with my buddy Fido, enjoying the beautiful sunny day taking shape as the minutes ticked by. A warm breeze was softly caressing my face, after the last few cold days we have had, it felt uplifting and relaxing. I could see several people walking about or engaged in one game or another, frolicking and just enjoying themselves. Happy kid’s squeals could also be heard echoing among the trees, making an already happy day, even more so.

Suddenly Fido dropped his head and with a pitiful whine raised his paw and dropped it across his head, literally covering his hears as if a supersonic sound had pierced his brain. A few seconds later I started to hear a high pitch sound as well and after a few moments it literally felt like I was standing next to a passing freight train.
As I lifted my head I could see everyone else looking up towards the west, many had their hands pressed against the ears trying to dampen that awesome sound.

An incredibly bright ball of fire, even brighter than the sun, appeared in the distance towards the west, from my perspective i could see a smoky and fiery tail following the main body. .
At this point I knew what it was and a deep feeling of dread made my knees go weak. I figured that the entry angle of this massive asteroid must have been at an almost tangential trajectory relative to the surface of Earth. Thus the relative slow motion of it as it streaked across the sky.

After the initial shock people started to run in all directions, cries of horror could barely be heard above the heavy sound coming from the heavens, my dog decided to take the better part of valor and bolted from me probably breaking the sound barrier on the way to who knows where.

Knowing full well that running was not going to make a difference, I steeled myself in preparation of the inevitable. The animalistic side of me wanted to follow my dog in whatever direction he had disappeared but my intelligent side wanted to witness what was sure to come momentarily.

The air was becoming hot and realizing that I was standing next to a pond I wasted no time and after taking a deep breath jumped right in, blindly feeling with my hands, a few feet under the surface I found what I was looking for, a root sticking up from the pond floor. I grabbed it and pulled myself to it just as the now colossal inferno was directly above me.
Not only I could feel the heat even below water but I could also feel an awful squeezing sensation. It was the sound pressure acting as an immense anvil.

One or two seconds later it passed but instead of cooling down it was actually getting hotter. I quickly broke the water surface and dragged myself to a standing position.
Ever opened an oven and felt the hot air escaping from it?
That is how it felt, 2 seconds later my clothes were dry and my exposed skin took an angry dark red color tone.

I knew that I probably had a few seconds of life left but my determination to see it all to the end was superhuman. I took a quick look around with my fading vision and saw what hell looks like, trees on fire, grass completely burned off the scorched ground surface and to my left the pond was almost bare of any water.
I could not see any further than 100 feet or so westward due to the thick smoke, therefore I had no way to tell how the town buildings fared. In my mind I knew that everything that could burn was now burning.

Suppressing the mind numbing burning pain all over my body I turned again just in time to see the impact. Probably 40-50 miles to the east. For a moment I thought I went deaf, besides the crackling sound of burning wood, no other noise could be heard. A blinding flash ensued followed moments later by an angry up veal of the ground. It took me a second to realize that I was flat on the ground and that I was hugging the burnt surface like a baby seeking a mother's embrace.

Then it came. The shock wave, comprising of tightly compressed air and like a twig I felt myself being flung dozens of feet along the burnt ground only to be suddenly and bone jarringly stopped by a tree stump.

Broken, confused and awash in a sea of pain I made an herculean effort just to lift my head and as I looked up, I saw it, the final fiery curtain was about to close about me.
The heat wave, a searing 1000 plus, degrees furnace born of annihilated rock against rock finally reached me.

I felt...nothing, nothing at all.

Oblivion had at last arrived to take me where there was no pain, no suffering.......

End.

Very well written post! Where were you located in the dream? I had a dream last summer of something like that streaking across the sky. At first I thought it was the sun. I don't know what I was though.
