Need Computer help
I currently have an HP G60 Notebook
3 GB
32 bit
windows vista
I have 190GB free of 287 available on my hard drive and
1.81GB free of 10.8 on my recovery drive.

All of the above is greek to me, just figured it would help with my questions. In addition, the drives that allow you to use a zip drive to store stuff dont work for some reason.

I have not had any major issues with this computer and I love it, but the letters are actually wearing of the key board, and I use it for work, so I am freaked out about losing all my spreadsheets and stuff.

Everything out there is windows 8 and I havent heard good stuff about that system and I dont want to be the first buyer and be the guinea pig for microsoft to only come out with a better one six months from now.

All of my programs and software are windows based so I am not looking to covert to a mac, my mom has one and I dont really like using it.

When I have alot of programs open or even alot of tabs on internet explorer, I tend to have issues with things responding to commands.

So... What is the best course of action, can I add something to this computer to make it run better or do I just hope for the best until another operating system comes out? Any help would be appreciated, but it needs to be in the form of computers for dummies as I am not well versed in computer knowledge.

who uses zip drive anymore? 1998 called...they want their storage media back.

Seriously, though, get yourself a new computer and buy a version of Windows7. THen just make a directory of all the files you want to be sure to keep and transfer them over using a usb drive or similar.

Done. welcome to 2013!

or if you want to cheap out, you could probably get away with an increase in ram. Your best increase in speed would be a solid state hard drive, but windowsXP doesnt have drivers to support that out of the box.

Told you I wasnt computer savvy!

All I know is I was out all day today and Bestbuy, staples, office max, and Sams all have only windows 8.

USB drive, thats what I meant when I said zip (I think). I dont want to buy a refurbished one if I am gonna buy one, I just dont want an 8.

I got stuck with this vista, which for me hasnt been bad, but I dont want to be the test driver again on a new system.

I'd suggest looking for a refurbished laptop that runs Win 7 or possibly XP.

You can get a pretty decent one for under $300 if you look around online.

yeah maybe I will do that until another type comes out that has better reviews and then buy a new one. In the meantime I think I am gonna take mine in and see what they can do.

It doesnt let me backup unless I use disks and I dont know why so maybe they can fix that so I can put it on the usb drive to back up my files.
