What is amazing is that no more than twenty years ago it was regarded as an highly offensive swear word.People would lose their job if they uttered it on TV and you wouldn't say it in polite company.Now you have 5 year olds telling you "to fuck off you cunt" and their parents applauding them for doing so.

"Bloody" is actually short for "BY OUR LADY" and literally means the same as "Mary, Mother of God" and originally was used in the same way as Yankies say "Jesus Fucking Christ".

Hence it is swearing.

I'm from Boston and they say "wicked" for everything. Hey that was wicked cool or wicked pissah. Don't ask. I have no clue either.

Apparently it comes from the Mary Queen of scots era, it was considered as vulgar to say "by my lady" which mocked the queen, but people used it often, and it slowly developed in to sounding like 'bloody' when expressed quickly, and over time like chinese whispers, it has now become 'BLOODY'

Charlton Heston used to say 'Bloody'.
Better than saying 'Buger' I suppose.
