(OP) User ID: 34757436 United States 02/22/2013 06:52 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I've been home brewing beer for 20 years, its a great way to spend a few hours in the kitchen drinking beer :) Quoting: Lemon The recipe is a solid basic beer recipe. If you want to up your game, skip the sugar and double the malt, and get a good brewers yeast. Check out this form: [link to www.homebrewtalk.com] The beginners section is great, people are generally friendly to any question. For brewing supplies I use: [link to www.austinhomebrew.com] There are many online homebrew supply shops - this one has flat rate shipping (important for those 50 pound bags of grain), and competitive prices. Maybe you can help answer an earlier question if you don't mind. Earlier a guy asked why the alcohol doesn't evaporate out while the beer is fermenting in the bucket. I'm sure some does evaporate out but the resulting brew is still about 6% after two weeks. Can you answer that? I would recommend using a closed fermenter with an airlock. In an open fermentation, you get a layer of CO2 blanketing the beer - this should protect the young beer. The main reason for the closed fermenter is to prevent wild yeast form entering and altering the flavor. The alcohol has a much lower boiling point than the rest of the liquid, this is how stills work. To your question,(my guess) I don't think you would have much evaporation at room temperature in two weeks, and evaporation into the dry air would take all liquids (beer), unless you approach the boiling point of alcohol (or people would not need stills with eight foot chimneys to distill. Thanks, man. I appreciate the info. A subject observes itself observing itself observing itself observing itself observing itself observing itself observing itself observing itself ad infinitum. |

If TSHTF the world will not be a safe place for anyone. What makes them think they will be able to prey on the innocent, indefinitely? Sooner or later, they will run into the wrong person, and that will be that. I've been shot at before while inadvertently straying onto private property while hunting. I've had a shotgun stuck in my face when I walked into in a convenience store robbery. I've been shot by a stupid hunter who thought I looked like a turkey. Been sprayed with birdshot by dove hunters. I'm still here. hehe, your country has to be very dangerous my friend. I've never seen a gun and here you are getting shot twice and were threatened once. No wonder you now decided to get rid of guns in the US :) Price of admission. Car crashes happen, too.. but I'm still driving. Only the tards want to get rid of guns. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 34126874 The table sugar seems to be what gives this recipe that light "Old Milwaukee" flavor. It's not bad. But I agree with what you say. For the recipe's sake (along with simplicity), 1 big can of malt syrup per batch is OK. It would probably be good to replace some of that table sugar with brown sugar or molasses. I might try that sometime. I am allergic to grains, so I would need to substitute molasses for the malt syrup. How much would I need? I don't know how much a "can of malt syrup" holds. Also....I looked and couldn't find out...is malt made from barley? Sorry, city gal, I guess. Thanks in advance....very intrigued. I'm thinking molasses and organic sugar, and then I will serve it with paper umbrellas. LOL |

The first bit of good info came from wiki. I'm typing from my phone so I can't do links for you. Just think of the other stuff you can make or flavor with malt... Drinks, candy and even mix dried malt with powered milk for making some malted milk balls. Yum. |

It had a very distict dry wine taste. This is the first time I have ever used rice syrup solids, and my question is - is that why it tastes like wine, did I make a sorghum saki on accident? Bird-shot just bounces off that material doesn't it? (at almost any distance other than 'point blank' for a shotgun) Prairie chickens could be netted if you wear that, otherwise a .22 works fine. I pack a camera these days. The deli has lots of cooked chicken already. I suppose the stepping on the wings and pulling on the feet real hard is not the way to clean them. Only ever shot one hunting partner, doc gave me shit said I shouldn't have gutted and cleaned him before coming for help. Last Edited by MHz on 02/22/2013 11:09 PM |

Sorghum is a good alternative to barley to make it gluten free. I'm spoiled with Heady Topper right now, but when TSHTF, it sure doesn't hurt to be the guy in town supplying beer. In the olden days, brewers were just a step below royalty; every town needed one to survive. |

You are fermenting sugars into alcohol. The instant barley needs to be "Mashed" - basically make a large tea bag and let it soak at 150 - 160 degrees Fahrenheit for an hour. hops adds bitterness, aroma, and is a preservative. **I'm all out of bubblegum |
