DNA tests for people convicted of misdemeanors could be allowed under Colorado bill
"DENVER - A state representative took his own DNA sample at a news conference Tuesday announcing a proposal that would require people convicted of misdemeanors to submit samples for a database.

"DNA is a tool that works and expanding will make this a safer place for all Coloradoans," said Rep. Dan Pabon.

A coalition of district attorneys said they support Rep. Pabon's bill.

"Criminals do not follow a neat pattern of only committing one type of offense," said Dawn Weber, Chief Deputy District Attorney in Denver, "We don't see that they only commit a felony or type of felony, so passage of legislation that relates to collection for a misdemeanor conviction does have the capacity to catch and identify these very serious criminals."

If it becomes law, DNA collected after a misdemeanor conviction would be entered into a database where it would be compared with DNA found at a crime scene. Colorado began collecting DNA from accused felons in 2010 under the so-called Katie's Law.

That law is credited with solving cold cases and stopping repeat offenders.

Denise Maes, director of public policy for the Colorado ACLU, agreed DNA can be a good crime fighting tool, but said it comes with serious civil liberty issues.

"It's far more invasive than [fingerpringting]," she said. "Fingerprinting tells you the identity of an individual, DNA will tell you who your family is and what your medical history is. That's now going to be in large database."

The ACLU also opposed Katie's Law.

"You only have to worry about this law if you've done one of two things, you've been found by a jury of your peers that you've committed a crime or you've knowingly and full knowledge have plead guilty to a misdemeanor," Pabon said.

Colorado District Attorneys Council executive director Tom Raynes says the bill would include safeguards to protect civil liberties."

They should just do DNA tests on all the new babies born, you know, in case they can figure out who will commit crimes in the future - then we lock them up when they're like five or six so they never commit any crime.

Who's paying for this invasion of privacy? What is this, Gattaca?

Here's a little more for you to think about. In light of the tracing your ancestry craze, will they use this information to find and irradiate the Israelites? (No, I didn't say Jewish people) After all Jewish people hatred is so back in fashion, there won't be any problems locating and killing them.

Maybe that's the plan. They want to clear out the whole state in preparation for the move from DC to Denver.

Pure speculation of course.

I'm just saying, I love this beautiful state. And I know I see Colorado events it in threads quite often on conspiracy sites. But this offers you just a very skewed fraction of what's going on in this state. My boyfriend is the groundsworker for the state capitol and his dad is a Serjeant-at-Arms (the representatives get the tastiest pastries, I've tried them). So I know there is a lot of corruption in that place. But don't judge this entire beautiful state over that and some of the tragedies that have happened here recently. They happen everywhere, the media decides what gets the most attention. Don't listen to this guy, move to Colorado! Mountain bug-out spot guaranteed!

Have you ever even been to Colorado? Because you sound pretty ignorant to the natives like myself who've spent their whole lives here. I drive I-25 going 70 mph for 25 minutes twice a day and I rarely see a cop. There is a lot more state to CO than just Denver and the metro area. Quit judging my state man and pay attention to what's happening in yours.

We've been in CO for 15 years and aren't planning on leaving any time soon, but I just don't know if I could, in good conscience, recommend moving here to someone. It makes me so incredibly sad to say that, but I really don't like the way things are heading here.

That said, you're absolutely right about what you read on here and places like GLP representing only a part of the story. There are many, many people like you and me who are willing to fight to keep our freedoms intact. I have my doubts that we'll win, but not everyone in CO will roll over and accept the socialist agenda lying down.

CO is a beautiful state with so much to recommend it...I just hope we can keep it that way!

I completely understand what you mean. It saddens me when I see evidence of said agenda everyday. And perhaps I'm inexperienced, but I assumed that's happening everywhere and probably much worse in some places! But again, I haven't spent much time anywhere else. Anyway, I'm not convinced we will win either but at least I can say I have hope and find comfort in that. I find comfort in the many souls I see everyday breaking away from the herd and they are growing in number exponentially especially in CO.
There are a lot of sights to see, so we are at least worth a visit :) Love and light! :hf:

Re: DNA tests for people convicted of misdemeanors could be allowed under Colorado bill
Interesting.

Little anecdote:
I don't remember all the details exactly but about 15 years ago a women was raped and murdered over here.

Two men were convicted but were released after 10 years or something when the case was reviewed and it turned out the DNA samples didn't match the men convicted.

Cold case.

Twice the police appealed to the civilians in the surrounding area to voluntarily hand over their DNA in order to catch the real perpetrator.

The second time, they widen the area and a match was found.

How? Not because the perpetrator handed over his DNA but because the perpetrator had a family member who did.

I am having mixed feelings about this. Good or bad?
