Stamps issued by the USPS that "Celebrate the Lunar New Year" wtf

Last lunar year (Chinese), the year of the Dragon, USPS issued some really cool Dragon stamps.

This year, the year of the snake, the image on the stamp is firecrackers, like an unwrapped pack of black cats and they are lit and exploding in the image.

WTF

even the post office clerk was like, "I don't know why that is the image they chose."

Is this a warning?

Is this just a natural symbol of the snake?

I am going to ask my Chinees friend on Monday but I thought it would be interesting to ask you all what you thought or knew about this image choice.
