User ID: 3677166 United States 03/11/2013 11:07 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I strongly feel that a major issue is also underemployment. Here in the UK at least it is a really huge problem but the politicians NEVER mention it. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23992770 How many of the 'new jobs' included in the statistics are one or more of the following: - Minimum, or close to minimum wage - Part-time only - Temporary - Apprenticeships - Internships The last two make me especially angry. The government classes you as 'employed' if you do either an apprenticeship or internship, but the truth is that both either only pay travel costs or pay way below the minimum wage (perfectly legally). This is all very well and good if there is a realistic chance of a proper job and career at the end of it, but that is not the case now. Big companies are being encouraged, by the government, to take on thousands of apprentices when they know full well there are only a handful of proper jobs available at the end - its just a way of keeping the unemployment figures down for the government and cheap labour for the companies. The same goes with internships - big city companies are now just exploiting interns as unpaid labour. As others have pointed out, with older people working longer we need to add even more jobs than before just to provide for those leaving education - but its not happening. Of course, this is a time-bomb if ever there was one. Because so many young people will be either unemployed or underemployed the welfare bill goes up and up, and tax receipts go down and down. Not sure there is a simple solution to this. Its a problem with so many facets and contributing factors, but in a nutshell the older generations have been happy to ignore the obvious crisis in the making for years now, and they seem content to continue. One has to wonder if there is not an element of 'I'm alright Jack' to it; afterall the current generation of politicians and pensioners are not going to be around to have to deal with the fallout. an excellent post. i am not sure how it is over there but here, the young usually vote for the very people who perpetuate this system dependency and welfare. they came out in droves for obama, you see it was considered more cool to vote for the "black guy" rather than the one who promised a job. over here, i fear when we lose our older generations who still admired individuality and self-reliance... i fear the loss of our older generations who actually know what being an american means. |

Quoting: Fred 35605840 Booms are great while they last, but the hang over sucks. SF must be the exception. Everywhere I go I see more "For Rent" signs in store windows and businesses. For most of the country, except for N. Dakota where the private (non government) oil boom is in full swing, there is despair, dejection and a hopeless feeling. 24 million KNOWN people out of work is not a good sign. |

Strange how the media lusts after this relatively unacomplished, and destrutive man. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 35613456 United States 03/11/2013 11:44 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I seem to remember that if the number of jobs created was something like 350,000 a month that we were only holding steady in number of jobs, and that if it was less than this number then we were actually losing jobs. I remember seeing this in the media repeatedly just after the crash in '08. I haven't seen this mentioned ever since on MSM. |

User ID: 903456 Netherlands 03/11/2013 02:21 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | One thing you have to consider about unemployment is how many kids leave school each year and enter the job market? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 35390350 I dont know what the actual figures are, but... Lets say 500,000 kids leave school and college each year, that means 500,000 jobs and/or openings have to be created. Thats in addition to covering lay offs, outsourcing and possible growth. Not to mention mothers wanting jobs because their kids are now at school, or semi retired people struggling with finances due to inflation etc. The government could say we are creating 2 million jobs a year, but the truth is you might need that just to cover labour entering the workforce. This, and an array of other reasons. Having said that. The numbers in the U.S. are skewed. My biggest problem with unemployment figures from the U.S. is the fact that they don't count people who should be working, but aren't, and have given up on looking for one. |

Both the electorate (the people) and the electoral process itself are corrupted beyond the point where they can be restored within the framework of the civil process. TPTB have drawn too many lines of force and power to themselves. Whatever happens will include a bloody fight...because that is what TPTB want/need to consumate their plan...and they are convinced they can win it. Like it or not, it's going to be a "shirts vs. skins deathmatch", and everyone will be forced to pick a side shortly. If you haven't already set yourself up on one team or the other...you're late to the party. GAME ON |
