Andariel, do you mind if I quote what you have written here and use it to spread the word?

I will quote your name as it appears here and the text of your original post, and not link back to this site, unless thats cool.

I use my facebook account only for an outlet of my views and opinions, with very few personal posts, and would love to post this as a 'note' on my timeline and try to open a few eyes with it. Just didnt want to do it without at least giving the respect of asking first.

Thanks ahead.

It is ok by me. Also, it is all right to link back to this site

EMP's aren't as effective as you think. They definitely disrupt electronics, but a lot of stuff will be ok, and even more will come back online shorty after. Hawaii came back online after starfish prime, and very few electronics were permanently damaged.

Correct.
I already answered that reply with this... "That EMP detonation test occurred slightly over 1400 miles away form Hawaii. And in the early 60's solid state technology was not as ubiquitous as it is today.

Google it".

I haven't followed this real time thread but within one week after an EMP attack the primary currency will be canned food. The secondary currency will be bullets to take it with,..... the cleaner way.

The dynamics of human interactions in a scenario such as this are quite frankly and utterly scary.
I surmise that in the first month alone a good 25% of the unprepared population will die in the riots and anarchy that would inevitably arise.
Scary indeed.

Well at last a thread that takes EMP with the seriousness it warrants!

You have to bear in mind just how utterly attractive and compelling this is to several players - and curiously how utterly unprepared the US is against such an attack, despite the numerous voices warning about it.

N.K - their one and only means of re-uniting the Peninsula is to take out the US with EMP, devastate S.K then simply hide their military in bunkers for a yr maybe, whilst the US just falls apart.

Shia Islam/Iran - the 12vers are supposed to bring back their Mahdi by plunging the world into chaos - who then responds by climbing back out of the well he disappeared down and leading them on a world conquering jihad. Problem is how are the muslim hordes going to beat the technologicaly superior infidels....................they are going to level the playing field with EMP, as well as provoking a nuclear shootout between Russia China and the US on the one hand and Israel/Sunni Arabs on the other.

Russia China would just love to see this happen - the world is their then to do as they please with - all they have to do is appear to have clean hands in case of retaliation - who knew that some of their tech and material found it's way into Iranian and NK's hands!

The NWO - perfect for them to have 90% of the world population dead, whilst they emerge from their underground cities, the only ones with any advanced technology - the survivors leaderless starving desperate for someone to rebuild civilisation.

I read once about the siege of Sarajeivo. The story teller said if he could have stockpiled anything, it would have been 10,000 bic lighters.

Interesting, huh. Seems that fire to keep from freezing was very important.

It's a good story. I'll try to find it in a bit.

Here is it...I think this is the article....good info here.

[link to www.tacticalintelligence.net]

Fron the intro:

In this compendium, Selco describes what it was like living in a city for a year without power, fuel, running water, food distribution or any semblance of traditional commerce. Their currency was useless, there were no police forces or government, and the streets were ruled by gangs and violence. The survival strategies that he, his family, and community used to stay alive are eye-opening and may change some of the priorities that you have when it comes to preparing for a SHTF scenario where you live. Although it’s long read, I highly recommend it given the wealth of knowledge taken from someone who’s lived it.

If the emp was new, yes we would be at risk, but fortunately we have updated our backbones for everything worth protecting on systems that are not effected by magnetic impulses.

Sure, if they did drop one, it would effect us citizens dramatically, but, our military and any other systems and data worth protecting, has been protected against such a threat.

I agree, however what will the military protect once the population starts to self destruct? Don't forget that the military have families in the real world and they will be subjected to an EMP attack effects just like the rest of us.
The military might be hardened against such event but our entire civilian electrical infrastructure will fail.

This is a report from a panel of scientists that outlines our inadequate preparedness in case of an EMP attack.

So I'm thinking that everyone with the capabilities of putting satellites into orbit, has an EMP weapon in geo synchronous orbit above they're enemies nation. This, effectively eliminates nuclear war as an option.

Good point.
I doubt everyone of them would have it, it is after all a nuclear device and only a few nations have that capability.
However nothing surprises me anymore.

This thread needs to be perma-pinned.

The NK recent satellite test plays into an EMP attack more than any supposed nuke attack.

NK knows damned well they can't nuke us or anyone... But an EMP which is ALOT easier to make would do the job.

If it does go down, this is how it will happen.

Best altitude for setting off an EMP is 300 miles.
NK satellite orbited at about 300 miles high.

HAHA!! That's rich!

Since I work in the (civilian) emergency power and backup distribution field I have first hand knowledge that any 'protection' against EMP is so far down the list one can't even see it. The real worries, and where the dollars are spent, are lightning protection, surge supression, and alternate power sources.

The military probably has systems in place because their job is to identify and neutralize potential threats. Data centers, telecom, and wireless are all most conserned with making a profit for the shareholders and EMP protection is very costly and, as they see it, a hurricane, flood, electrical outage is much more likely to effect the cash flow.

The only civilian facility I've seen that is EMP resistant, by design, not intent, is a big wireless carriers central switch.
