Female Texas lawmaker posts on Facebook that breastfeeding women ‘need to be modest’

A Texas lawmaker sparked ire among moms across the internet when she posted on Facebook earlier this week that she won’t support a breastfeeding bill.

On her Facebook wall, State Rep. Debbie Riddle, R-Tomball, says that she won’t vote for House Bill 1706, which makes it illegal to stop a mom from nursing in public, because “it is important for women to be modest while feeding their baby,” according to the Texas Tribune.

The 64 year-old Republican, who is married but never had children, added that she thinks most women are modest and respectful.

She's just copying Kochy!!

"Discussing a story about a Queensland woman who was told she couldn't feed her baby at a public pool, Koch said on Friday he supported breastfeeding, but that women should be "classy'' about it.

The comments prompted an immediate backlash with enraged nursing mothers and other breastfeeding supporters setting up a Facebook page to encourage people to participate in the Sunrise Nurse-In on Monday."

I breastfed my daughter. You can put a towel or shirt over them. LIke it is hard to hide a boob and by the way... there are some places where you should not breast feed. A pool is fine but there are some places.

I have to agree with her. Moms have been feeding their babies for years with little problem. Why do we now need a law saying we can't stop it? Are some of today's young women so militant and immodest that they feel they should have a legal right to whip out their tits for everyone to see on the pretext of feeding the baby? If a mom is behaving like this, somebody should ask her to stop or leave. But yes, most moms are still modest and private about doing this.

What a fucking idiot. Do you know how hard it can be to feed a baby a bloody bottle let alone breastfeeding them! EVERY HOUR AND A HALF FOR MONTHS?!?!?
Dumbass babies get fed how they want to be, covered or not

Bitch slap with a huge fish or bite her nipples so she knows breastfeeding is not a walk in the park. Last thing a new mother wants to do is flash her sore nipples. She shouldn't be looking anyway. Make eye contact with people.

This story really annoyed me. Can you tell?

She is actually right.
Why do we need the government to regulate ANY part of this?
Has there been an epidemic of boob exposures in SanFrancisco??
...or is it just the Libtard nuts at it again.
It's SanFran.....so we already know the answer to that.

She's just against the INCESSANT Libtard regulations.

Breast feed in private. If mother is taking baby somewhere, then use a breast pump, put the milk in a bottle, and take the bottle with them.

No excuse for this in public.

Yeah, because pumping is soooo easy. Some bsbies won't take a bottle if they're breastfed.

Maybe you should only eat in private.

Maybe you should grow up and find some manners in public.
I've raised one. Several friends breast fed theirs. Not one of them would have ever gone in public without a bottle of their own breast milk.

No excuse for this in public. Bring a bottle, cover up, find a private spot like a restroom, or stay the fuck at home.

Re: Female Texas lawmaker posts on Facebook that breastfeeding women ‘need to be modest’
Many babies don't take bottles
Many babies refuse to be covered
Many mothers have OTHER CHILDREN who they cannot lock up until the new sibling weans.
"Hey mom- can we do something fun as a family today?"
"No omg we must stay in the house for the next two years because what if some Midwestern prude can't avert his eyes in another direction while I feed your brother!"

NO
Also- pumping when one does not have to work is INSANE. When one has to be away from baby, one pumps to a. Keep milk flowing and supply up and b. have milk for baby. So again, may I enlighten you as to when you're nursing baby 24/7 about every 1-3 hours depending on time of day THERE IS NO BLOODY TIME TO PUMP IN BETWEEN! Like literally you nurse then change rock to sleep and you have 30-45 minutes to either eat, sleep, clean something IT'S INSANE.

People who are backwards about breastfeeding TRULY usually just have no experience. It's not normal to them because its foreign. And because of how things were back in the day they'll never get it until its their wife or sister or daughter who spends hours a day feeding a baby in her arms, nurturing her child, with cracked nipples and bloody cold cabbage leaves over her to ease the swelling!

And then you know what... It's still the same ol gal, maybe trying to chat with you or catch a little DVR action or eat a sandwich with a free hand...just like you've seen a woman in your past do while bottle feeding. She's not some crazy lady trying to show her boobs... She's the same.

So- as someone who cross my heart had a baby that NEVER took a bottle until she weaned to a sippy cup and REFUSED to be covered...I don't care. My boobs hurt my baby's hungry I'm hungry just believe me it takes a lot less effort for you to stop looking than it does for someone on the brink of exhaustion and desperately needing a shower to go nurse in a bathroom/stop what I'm doing go home/ hide forever or whatever it is you want me to somehow do.

Re: Female Texas lawmaker posts on Facebook that breastfeeding women ‘need to be modest’
I agree that women should be modest about such things.

It's not very polite when some lady with her baby is sitting at a table at a restaurant and whips out a tit and starts feeding her kid when everyone else is trying to eat.

People love to say "but it's natural!" and I agree. So is urinating but you don't do that in the middle of the restaurant.

It's frequently disruptive and people just might not want to look at your breast. Here people might say "Well they can just look away!" like it's the sixty other people in the restaurant who are the rude ones, but when someone in public has one of the private features of their anatomy flapping around, that's easier said than done. If some dude whips out his junk in the mall to "do something natural" with it do you think you're gonna be able to "not look"?

Nursing women have options, they really do. Why they would want to do it in public without any kind of covering, indeed trying to be as obvious about it as they can as if they're making some sort of a statement, is beyond me.

Please, it's about being polite. But far be it for me to tell you that you can't whip out your tit in front of other families, their children, teenagers, and everyone else. But you should have some common courtesy and show some manners like you would anything else. Not everything has to be a statement.
