Hello Watching the World. You and your Vet are doing everything right for your doggie family members.

It's so very hard when they are ill, like little kids, because of communication skills. Our lack, not theirs ;-)

Another home remedy we use for upset tummies is Kayolin aka White Clay. It lines the gut and helps to soothe the inflammation. Since our dogs are larger Labbies, they get 2-Tblsp twice a day mixed with food when tummy trouble strike.

Yes to yoghurt, whole milk yoghurt especially. If you make your own even better. I'll make it thinner, like kefir, so they can drink it...especially if they aren't wanting to eat solids. I'll lightly poach or coddle an egg and whip it into the thinned yoghurt, too.

Did your Vet give you liquid B12 as an adjunct? We use the liver flavoured B12 yum yum yummy (blech!) and the dogs take it fine. Especially when mixed into food...they're Labs or as I call them garbage scows.

One of our Labby Girls was tested for everything under the sun because of recurrent gastrointestinal/bladder infections. Turned out rather than bacterial or viral it was a yeast infection. Vaginitis.

We're saying our Prayers to St Francis and St Christopher for a speedy recovery. Yes, Puppies and Kitties say Prayers ;-)

Re: BE ALERT FOR THE SIGNS - All 3 of my dogs have a "virus" signs to observe - vet has no clue other than Hemorrhagic Gastroenteritis UPDATE
I just spent the last 3 days at the vet with my Miniature Dachshund. I had every test run for parasites, from A to Z, X-rays to rule out obstruction and 2 days at the vet clinic with constant observation and IV fluids.

My dog had blood in her runny stools, and was vomiting a white foamy puke and was drooling.

Every test imaginable has been done on her and it has now been concluded that she has a virus $1500.00 later....

This is also confirmed because now my other 2 dogs are now displaying the same symptoms.

I live in a very secluded area and my dogs only go out in a fenced in area to play and walk. I have tried to keep them separated as much as possible, but apparently this virus is highly contagious.

My dogs are always up to date on their shots and have had their heart worm medications on a regular basis.

I cook for my dogs, so there is no chance of them being sick from the dog food.

AGAIN - signs to look for
1. Drooling and foamy vomit
2. Diarrhea and runny stools
3. Blood in stools
4. Lethargic

My Dachshund is feeling some better today, but the other 2 dogs are now starting with the same symptoms.
 Quoting: Watching the world

My dog had the same thing a few weeks ago. A lot of dogs around here are getting this unexplainable mange on their coat right now too.

I ground up oatmeal in the magic bullet, mixed it with baking soda, added water and made a paste then rubbed it on and left it on. It's clearing it up on my dog.

I feel your pain. I went through what sounds like the same thing with one of my Leo’s about 5 months ago. He was fine one day, the next, drooling, and foaming, lethargic, blood in his stool, etc. I rushed him to my Holistic Vet for treatment. Upon examination my Vet discovered that the gum line where the tooth and gum’s meet were very red which indicated internal bleeding. We suspected some type of poison. We didn’t do any tests, we immediately began treatment. She prescribed:

(YNBY) Yunnan Baiyao Capsule 16 Count- by Prince of Peace to stop the internal bleeding and a 10-day supply of antibiotics. My boy was back to normal within 24 hours after we began treatment.

You said you feed raw/cooked (so do I- as well as Orijen Regional Red Kibble) therefor it cannot be related to any of these recent pet food recalls:

Jones Natural Chews Co Recalls Woofers Dog Treats Because Of Possible Salmonella Health Risk
[link to www.fda.gov]

Natura Pet Issues Voluntary Recall of Specialized Dry Pet Foods Due to Possible Health Risk
[link to www.fda.gov]

Bravo! Recalls 2 lb Tubes of Chicken Blend-Raw Frozen Food Diet for Dogs and Cats (One Lot Code) Because of Possible Salmonella Health Risk
[link to www.fda.gov]

Diggin' Your Dog Recalls Strippin' Chicks Pet Treats Distributed in Colorado and Nevada Due to Possible Salmonella Hazard
[link to www.fda.gov]

Was your area affected by Hurricane Sandy? If so, are you sure no one (including the city) is poisoning rats/mice etc. in your area? It sure sounds like some type of poison to me.

For the record…I had never heard of Yunnan Baiyao before my vet administered it to my boy. It stops internal bleeding. The Chinese have used it for hundreds of years. I now keep a box of it on hand just in case something like this ever happens again.

Hugs to you and your furry children. Keep us posted.

OP, hope your doggies will recover. Watch out for infected birds poop.

Folks, if you see something wrong with your pet, insist that your vet will do emergency blood test first. It may show what could be the problem and you may save yourself lots of money with doing all those X-Rays, Ultrasounds, etc.

I am so sorry you have sick dogs :( I hate it when my dogs get sick! It sounds like you have covered all of your bases and they eat healthy so I am not sure what it could be...especially if it seems to be something contagious. That to me would rule out anything they may have eaten or I would think they would all get sick at the same time.

One of my dogs got pancreatitis and the symptoms you have described are nearly exactly the ones she was having. That shows up in blood work though (lipase counts), it is not contagious and generally something they get from eating something they shouldn't.

One question about their heartworm medication...Do you give them the Proheart shot? Years ago one of my dogs was getting sick very frequently and my vet linked it back to her proheart injections. The drug ended up being recalled by the FDA due to adverse reactions but it has been re-introduced since.

The only other suggestion I can think of is metronidazole which worked wonders for mine's bloody stools.

I hope they get to feeling better soon!

They have not eaten anything like a bird or bat or anything like that. I constantly watch them and everything that goes into their mouth. They are only in a fenced in area for play and a separate area for bathroom that is regularly cleaned.

The vet has no clue how to even name the virus, but has concluded that it is indeed a virus.

I have no idea how they got this. They do not come in contact with other dogs either.

either that is total bullshit or you have no life.

Look how you have quite conveniently set up for there to be no other more likely cause than some scary mysterious unnamed hemorrhagic virus.

Total bullshit hysteria.

More likely some pesticide poisoning or household substance.

Oh wait, I know...the meteorites contaminated the Earth with some weird dog plague...

Wow. I'm sorry to hear your babies are so sick! Have you tried to give them an egg white beaten until foam is thick enough not to fall out of bowl when turned upside down?? The egg white coats the stomach lining and helps w/ inflammation. I had to put the egg white on a syringe and give it to my dog and I also gave her sugar water every hour, she was better in 2 days.
I hope your dogs are OK and THANK YOU for the post!!!

Most vets seem to have no clue.
We just lost my 12 year old yellow lab (had to put her down last week) to a nasal tumor that was diagnosed rather late and was fast spreading.
Took two rounds of biopsies in June of last year to reveal that she has the cancer - which i suspect it to be from a nasal vaccine administered in 2010/2011.

Take care and all the best.hf

Neither did we till we came across a facebook page dedicated to nasal tumors in dogs while searching the web for possible alternatives to chemo/radiation.

That Chinese stuff was very effective in reducing the bleeding (coupled with cod liver oil)

I'm late to this, OP, so I hope I'm not repeating stuff.

Has there been a lot of chemtrailing in your area lately?

How has the weather been? Any unusual atmospheric things (like meteors)?

How has the people's health locally been?

I think it's something in the air...or possibly the water...where do they get their water from?

Has the vet seen anything else like this recently?

Good luck, OP, it's so awful to see your dog-kids sick!

Our Chi had the same thing....vet put her on a strict dietof chicken only....two midnight visits to doggie e. r. they found she is allergic to chicken as well as many other foods. She was near death both times (our vet was killing her with the chicken...needless to say we don't use him now.

We had changed her food to Beneful, it was full of all the things she was allergic to. So now she eats Nature's Choice
Rice and Lamb only....no problems until kids sneak her a treat, then she has bloody stools and foamy throw up. Check all labels chicken or chicken flavor is in almost all dog food. Rice and Lamb works for us. Hope this helps. Also make sure food is not from China.

I have three ideas I did not see posted, although I only read half the responses, I hope this helps.

1) Vaccines are as bad for animals as they are for humans, with the exception of rabies vaccine after being bitten I can only say Junk Science is Vaccine Science. God did not intend for Humans or Animals to have Foreign Viruses injected directly into the body with a needle. T-Cells Identify and tag invaders for life long immunity when viruses enter through the lungs and digestive track. The toxic additives do more to weaken the immune system than make it stronger.

2) Fluoride - I know you said you are rural but you may want to give them distilled or reverse osmosis water for a while, the Ground supply and city water is ever more polluted and contaminated with all sorts of nasty things.

3) Depleted Uranium, They pick up more than we do being closer to the Ground, I have it on good authority that the Evil DU Ammo is used on fireing ranges in the USA by troops training to take out Armored Vehicles in the many Foreign Wars that we seem to never be free of since the 1940's.
