BTW...a little more info...
Randall Flagg didn't first appear in the stand,...he first appeared as simply 'flagg' in 'the eyes of the dragon'.

it was also hinted that he, 'the man in black', was the evil dude in 'storm of the century'.

but mainly, flagg was who roland pursued on the way to the dark tower.
 Quoting: Dace

How do you figure that?

Eyes of the Dragon- first published 1984
The Stand- 1978

Dark Tower came way after either

My bad, you're almost right...it's been awhile since I read them..

The stand WAS before 'eyes'..

BUT

King wrote "Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came" while he was still in college.... he expanded it into the dark tower novels later.
 Quoting: Dace

He didn't write that poem, I think it was Robert Frost or something. Kings inspiration came from the poem.
