Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 10267579 United States 03/26/2013 12:28 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | North Korea has put its military on a 'battle-ready' status with strategic rocket units ordered to prepare for possible strikes against the US mainland, Hawaii and Guam according to the country's state media. "The Korea People's Army top command declares that all artillery troops including strategic rocket units and long-range artillery units are to be placed under class-A combat readiness," the Korean Central News Agency said. The announcement came as images were released showing a new round of military exercises by the isolated state. The still photographs show what appears to be sea-borne assault using hovercraft and an artillery drill using multiple rocket launchers. North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un, is pictured visiting troops and watching the exercise from a vantage point above the unidentified beach on the country's east coast. The photographs, released by KCNA, are accompanied by language which matches weeks of rhetoric. [link to news.sky.com] |
Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 10267579 United States 03/26/2013 12:31 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | [link to www.kcna.co.jp] Kim Jong Un Guides Landing and Anti-landing Drills of KPA Units Pyongyang, March 25 (KCNA) -- Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army Marshal Kim Jong Un, first secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and first chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK, on Monday guided the landing and anti-landing drills of KPA Large Combined Units 324 and 287 and KPA Navy Combined Unit 597. He issued an order for drills without any notice and finally examined the landing and anti-landing capabilities of the large combined units of the KPA Ground Force and the KPA Navy combined unit situated in the eastern sector of the front and the east coastal area. After receiving a report on the plan of the drills, he gave an order to start the drills. First the drill of striking and wiping out landing enemies in the waters took place. Multiple launch rocket systems opened fire all at once. He was greatly satisfied with the drill. He said "It was well done", adding that the units made intensive firing at the group of enemy warships after setting a correct time for firing on the basis of the full grasp of the enemy's landing plan and when the rate of destroying enemy ships was considered as the highest. He stressed the need to destroy the enemies in waters to the last man through strong firepower so that they might not land in the coast of the territory. He ordered the soldiers of the heroic KPA to display their mettle in the great war against the enemies and send all of them to the bottom of the sea as they run wild like wolves threatened with fire. Then the landing operation of KPA Navy Unit 597 started. High-speed boats charged into the coast in succession. Watching through field glasses combatants occupying enemy positions at a breath, he said they look highly-spirited and if it were an actual battle, the enemies would have no time to come to their senses. He called the women soldiers of the 3rd artillery piece of the 1st Platoon of a battery under KPA Large Combined Unit 324 who had been involved in the artillery firing at the landing enemies to come close to him. He personally designated a firepower position beside him and set a target without any notice before giving an order to destroy it. Upon receiving the order, members of the women's multiple rocket system rapidly took the firepower position and accurately hit the target. He shook their hands one by one, praising them as great soldiers and crack shots. They performed their duties well though he had set without any notice a target which was not envisaged in the drill program and assigned to them duty to destroy it, he said. He took them to his arms before having a photo taken with them. "How praiseworthy Korean women are and a-match-for-a-hundred members of the women's multiple rocket system can never be compared with nukes", he noted, earnestly telling them to conduct training better and launch a dynamic campaign to become one-beats- a hundred crack shots at ordinary times and hero artillery women by sending enemy warships to the bottom of the sea in the decisive battles. |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 10267579 United States 03/26/2013 12:38 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The photographs, released by KCNA, are accompanied by language which matches weeks of rhetoric. According to the news agency, Kim Jong Un "stressed the need to destroy and wipe away any enemy who lands on their coast through strong firepower and ordered the soldiers of the heroic Korean People's Army to display their mettle in the great war against the enemies". "Crazy like wild wolves threatened with fire, send all of them to the bottom of the sea," Kim is quoted as saying. The exercise and the photographs of it are a clear response to a series of month long exercises taking place across the border in South Korea involving American and South Korean troops and naval forces. It has been an uneasy few months on the Korean peninsula with rhetoric and threatening language at a level not seen for several years. The increased tension comes as Seoul marks the third anniversary of the sinking of a South Korean warship. On March 26, 2010, the Cheonan was torpedoed by the North Korean military with the loss of 46 sailors. In December, North Korea launched a satellite into orbit in the tip of a rocket. Their claim then was that this was all part of Pyongyang's legitimate right to pursue a space programme. Few countries bought that claim, believing instead that it represented the latest move in North Korea's development of a ballistic missile programme. The rocket launch was followed in February by an underground nuclear test and a sharp escalation in tension. Faced with unprecedented UN sanctions, backed by his historical ally China, Kim Jong Un admitted that the rocket launch and nuclear test were indeed all part of his ideological desire to destroy America and her allies. The annulment of the armistice agreement with South Korea and repeated threats to attack the South over the past three weeks have, so far, been exposed as nothing more than bluff and bluster. However, with unattributed cyberattacks in Seoul, repositioned missile defence systems on America's west coast and the presence of US B-52 bombers in the skies above the Korean peninsula, there's no doubt minds across the region and beyond are very focused on a fragile peace and an unpredictable regime.
