Look at the size of the tree trunk and her position to it relative to the bomb.

The tree block most of the blast and the shrapnel.

As the blast radiated out the "cone" of "safe" area was larger the further you are from the tree as long as you are in line with the tree and the blast origin.

That girl is a very very very lucky girl.

Second bomb wasn't a pressure cooker and significantly smaller.

The first bomb threw people into a mass of other people. Resulting in alot more people on the ground.

The second bomb threw people into a railing ...which you don't even seen in any after shots except the one bent around the mailbox). Also most of the cameras were up front and since that was the first bomb to go off that is where most of the attention was fixed. What pictures of the carnage at the second site that were taken were better controlled and what did get released to the public was blurred out.

Usually they try to clamp down on gory pics of victim ...especially for the families sake but lots of pics at the first site were taken a quickly released to the media. This didn't happen at the 2nd site.

You are making the erroneous assumption that every injury is significant.

They are counting even the people that got one little penetrating shrapnel wound or hit there head on the ground when somebody went flying into them... basically everyone who sought medical treatment and I am sure they advised anyone with the slightest injury to get looked at for documentation and the chance the injury is more serious then it appears.

...bomb explodes and you expect people without serious injury to hang around? Few cuts and scraps and bruises... I would waste medical personals time and I would have no desire to hang around too long in case something else happens.

They left and went to the hospital later most probably the next day if it wasn't a serious injury.

Would you hang around if you had bump on your head but was otherwise ok? I'm sure everyone was told or it was announce in some manner to get checked out at the hospital for even lesser injuries.

I have to agree. Behind the two girls right to the tree there are people between them and the suspect. How can the backpack be visible then? Are they transluscent? The backpack also seems to be too close to the front row.
