We have big Ramp Festivals here in several towns. Gotta love that. They have two broad leaves that taper down to a single purple stalk and a bright white bulb. The leaves, stalks and bulbs each have their own flavor. The overall taste is like onions and garlic mixed with a little bit of woodsiness thrown in. I'm sure that very few Australians have ever eaten them. They have a very short season and only grow in the eastern USA. They are considered a delicacy. You can use them in lieu of onions in some recipes but your dinner guests will be able to tell they're ramps and not onions. (OP) User ID: 38464690 United States 04/23/2013 07:34 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Love ramps and eggs! April is the time of year for them and I haven't had any, so I'm missing out. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 37016611 Around here (WV), there are many roadside sellers peddling ramps. You can usually get around fifty in a bag for $3 or less. I don't know where you live but keep an eye out for roadside sellers. They're also easy to find at fleamarkets.
