Srike package codes, recalls, control info are to be sent to strategic bombers via satcom, but the redundant system is global shortwave and the use of a one time pad based system with other types of context based encryption mixed in.

This is used in the event that milstar's packet sipernet is disabled.. To provide positive control of strategic nuclear assets from a wide range of installed locations, hardware configurations and even civilian transmitters provided you have the correct authentication. Even a full scale nuclear war would not terminate this fallback shortwave link.

There are no known public sources for detailed descriptions of these strings, but there are a number of books and papers published that cover this topic in broad strokes (and, which I suspect are in many ways greatly out of date - I've found nothing that covers the post 1992 strategic world in a way that is as detailed as they cover the pre 1992 world. It may be too early to do so, as it is probably still in transition). Some examples follow:

"The Logic of Accidental Nuclear War" by Bruce G. Blair; The Brookings Institution; 1993 (still in print); ISBN 0-8157-0983-8 (paper). There are numerous additional sources listed within the extensive "notes" section of this book. The notes section also contains detailed information that covers the uses of these messages.

The only "book" (it's actually an "occasional paper" of 108 pages) in this group that can be said to be up-to-date in the post 1992 strategic world. On EAMs, in particular see pages 59-60.
"Guarding the Guardians: Civilian Control of Nuclear Weapons in the United States" by Peter Douglas Feaver; Cornell University Press; 1992 (out of print unfortunately). Mostly covers PAL (Permissive Action Link) locks but has an overview on EAMs throughout the book.
"Dark Sun - The Making of the Hydrogen Bomb" by Richard Rhodes; Simon and Schuster; 1995 (still in print); ISBN 0-684-80400-X. Page 573: "..SAC routinely transmitted DefCon increases as unclassified messages until 1972." Question: what happened after 1972? - "SAC routinely transmitted DefCon increases as classified messages"?
The 10 May 1976 issue of "Aviation Week and Space Technology", devoted almost entirely to the Strategic Air Command. Written during the "Alpha Net" days of OFFUTT/BARKSDALE/WESTOVER/MARCH but has information that might still apply in some aspects 20 years later (probably modified.)
The Winter 1996 (Volume 27) issue of "World Air Power Journal" devoted to the B-52H with a long article beginning on page 54 written by Robert F. Dorr and Brian C. Rogers. See page 89 for a description of the receipt and authentication of an emergency war order onboard an airborne B-52H.

Yes, you are both correct.. Satcom (milstar) first, then shortwave and / or VLF from the NAVY retransmitting EAM from the NCA.

I suspect we have somthing similar, but the Russians have a third fall back.. A missile that flies an arc trajectory over Russia transmitting launch orders from a radio in the missiles payload, down to all terrestrial and air launched rocket forces.. So the entire war can be kicked off with a single missile. This works even after multiple command and control hardened bunkers and all senior leadership are eliminated. Crazy shit.. Like a nuclear dead-mans-switch.

i explained my job in the Marine Corps and standard radio conduct and talking in the open.

Scroll down to the bottom of the scanner page, and find the chat box. I typed 8992usb in there, it is blue. Click that, and it will tune the scanner for you.

scan around, if you hear something cool, hit the "store" button. It will save it for you. Save 8992usb then hit restore to go back to it if you scan away from it

Tangy you rock. Marine vet guy, you just need to observe here for a while before jumping in. I waited a couple years before I ever posted. And another year after that before I got an acct. Glp is special and has a special way about it. Learn it. And FTR, you brought the fight to this old page 50+ thread. If you did a search, you'd find dozens and dozens more on this topic. Please don't go posting there too. I will say I appreciate your input and think its very valuable. So I guess the lesson here is that it is valuable to have good communication skills, but more importantly is the understanding of local customs... Understandings that take time to appreciate..

You will have better luck hearing Air force comms on HFGCS if you tune the primary frequency 11175 USB instead of 8992 USB
