I was at work, when I tripped on a hose. I stumbled forward and suddenly was emeshed in the operating meat grinder. Now they call me Hero.

Men screaming with piercing, blood-curdling horror as their bodies turned into human torches. The black, oozing, smoldering flesh sliding off their torsos onto the pavement; now gruesomely littered with human remains.

The ones still running did not dare look back. Only run...run...run to a doorwell or sewer hole to dive in for protection from the onslaught of the EVIL DEMON INCARNATE hunters.............

Here's a thought: Mxothespade was already dead behind the wheel. The rear window of his truck melted onto the back of his bare skull. The subatomic blast was making his truck into a WMD as it flew into the giant glass cube of the Apple store on Madison Ave.

All Hell has descended on us. There won't be any paramedics to come help the partially fried corpses that still have a pulse and moaning incoherently for mercy...

OK. I confess. The story was not about Zombies or flesh-eating hexapedes or even Gawd-zilla on steroids.

Just an unfortunate group of regular citizens experiencing a terrible heat wave in New York city.
