So I tried to give some advice, based on things I have figured about myself over many years. I really have to thank Seeker of Truth for mentioning "Empath". I wasnt aware that there actually where people being called empaths and have never looked up on that subject. Until today. So, I googled Empath and came on this wonderful blog here: The first words I have read there where Are you an Empath? The chances are if you’ve happened across this blog and typed in ‘traits of an Empath’ into any search engine, you will no doubt be an Empath. Next came "30 Empath traits at a glance" which are completely described me. I read this out to my husband and asked if this would be me, his reply: "Did ou wrote that yourself? Its surely you!" Here are a few traits as example: Knowing: Empaths just know stuff, without being told. It’s a knowing that goes way beyond intuition or gut feelings, even though that is how many would describe the knowing. The more attuned they are the stronger this gift becomes. Being in public places can be overwhelming: Places like shopping malls, supermarkets or stadiums, where there are lots of people around, can fill the Empath with turbulently vexed emotions that are coming from others. Feeling others emotions and taking them on as your own: This is a huge one for Empaths. To some, they will feel emotions off those near by and with others they will feel emotions from those a vast distance away, or both. The more adept Empath will know if someone is having bad thoughts about them, even from a great distance. Watching violence, cruelty or tragedy on the TV is unbearable: The more attuned an empath becomes the worse it is and may make it so they eventually have to stop watching TV and reading newspapers altogether Others will want to offload their problems on you, even strangers: An Empath can become a dumping ground for everyone else’s issues and problems, which, if they’re not careful can end up as their own. Love of nature and animals: Being outdoors in nature is a must for Empaths and pets are an essential part of their life. Need for solitude: An Empath will go stir-crazy if they don’t get quiet time. This is even obvious in empathic children. For me, without knowing about Empaths, it was quiet a hard learning and recognicion process. It took so many years to finally realize. With this treath I would like to help people who might be Empaths and dont know it yet. (OP) User ID: 38572913 Germany 05/03/2013 01:25 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Thank ou for all your input Forgot to include the link to the blog I was talking about. It was the first thing I have read on Empaths. Well, it was just about bedtime for me when I started the thread, so here is the link: (also included it on top) [link to theknowing1.wordpress.com] Dont think of it as unfortunate. Once you realized, and importantly acknowledge, who you are it becomes alot easier! Now you are able to explain alot of things which might have raised questions and confusions before. Know you have the ability to change and help people, once you can control your empathy. The maybe hardest part to learn is to tell the difference between you true and someone elses feelings. If starting to feel differently all of sudden in company of certain people, find a time to step away for a few minutes and "reajust" yourself. Look into yourself and see what changed to the way you felt before. You will learn to tell the difference between your feelings and the others you have soaked up Don't you also feel fortunate though that it is you too? It can be a great tool to create yourself as you want to be if you use it to your advantage. Well said I am sorry How are you now? Wonder how many Empaths ended up with "Big Pharma" just because they never had a chance to realize who they truely are and never had a chance to learn how to cope when things got hard on them. I can see how it came to that, its sad really. Luckily I was always able to yank myself up, being in really rough times. I hope you will find your inner balance and strenght and be able to say bye bye to Big Pharma! 100% empath here. There will be some who, in this life, won’t choose it. I don’t believe Empaths had much choice when it came to ‘The Awakening’. We all had the internal alarms set, which when they went off, normally came in the shape of a nagging feeling that something was amiss with us and the world. This then heralded our quest to seek out answers and from there our adventures unfolded. This pretty much explained how it went with me and how I actually got here on GLP december last year as "lurker" Reading and discovering the blog is just amazing to me, so much just resonates. Once you discovered and know you are a Empath, it all will make sense. :) You will gain a whole new point of view and start using your gift efectivly positiv. Just make sure to take care of yourself (i know, its a hard part sometimes, because of the strong tendency to put others first). Have plenty of relaxing "quiet times" that will help you if you feel drained. BTW, we share the zodiac "He who people call a fool is not a fool, but he who takes flattery for Truth, is." |

It's called The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. It loosely finds through a test of basic "how do you feel or what would you do" in a variety of situations to reveal basic characteristics of people. The system has 16 major "types" but many people are combinations of types but it does reveal general tendencies and many companies use it as a way to place workers. You can find free 70 question tests online. It's better to try not to learn about the types before you take the test so you don't "try to be a type". When you understand that there are basic ways that people "process" the world around them and learn how to "speak their language", it helps in relating to others who do not experience the world in the same way. That's where I learned about the empathic qualities I have and why I have behaved in situations in certain ways and most importantly it helps in relating to others who process the world differently....They're called family. It's definitely worth the time and can be very revealing. Just wish I had known about this when I was younger. |

I think it is much harder to declare/develop the emotional transparency "gifts" as a male though. I feel it does deepen life's dialogue, but at the same time there is much I wish to shrug off and walk away from, but I cannot. I love the woman I am with but I appreciate and need my time alone. I love walking about in nature and enjoying my horses, dog and cats interactions on a daily basis. I avoid drama like the plague whether it is from family, friends or broadcast only because it screws up the internal conflict index. Peace and love to all! I've been one for as long as I can remember. It's a curse and a blessing. Its a blessing because it makes me great at me job. (Im a paramedic and own a company that cares for seniors in their home- we are known for our hospice care...make sense)? But it's a curse too. Especially today when there is so much pain in the world. Even on the personal level in working with my hospice families and clients. I feel their pain....which becomes my pain. And I know I am not the only one on here that is an Empath. I have spoken to many that can verbalize their feelings but not know the actual term. So this is a great post for them. |
