God doesn't fix mental illness all the time, unfortunately. In fact, it's very possible that belief in God is a delusion itself. User ID: 35647026 United States 05/06/2013 07:32 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I went to a suicide prevention training last week called QPR (Question, Persuade, Respond)--the bottom like is that if you even think someone my be thinking of taking their life ASK THEM AND BE DIRECT. Don't beat around the bush and don't try to soften it by asking them if they intend to "hurt" themselves or if they're depressed. Ask them straight out if they are planning on KILLING THEMSELVES. The biggest mistake people make is that they fear bringing up the topic directly but that is the very thing you need to do. |

I believe that committing suicide would require one to - in the next life (or some life thereafter) - re-learn the same lessons left unlearned in this current/most-recent life. I don't really know where I picked up this belief, but it does resonate with me and it's kept even the idea of suicide off the table for me through some pretty tough times. Such a sad story. Life always gets better, pretty much no matter what.. Hills and valleys. It'll always get worse again, but only temporarily before getting better again.. "Change is the only constant in life" and all that. The poor girl didn't live long enough to figure that out. |

pray_Italy User ID: 39434049 Italy 05/06/2013 10:21 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Just happened here in Italy too ...... so sad PADUA - A young student in Montagnana (Padova) took his own life yesterday afternoon at his home. He was only 17 years old and in the Nautical Institute in Venice. The tragedy occurred between 16 and 17 yesterday, while the boy was in the house alone: according to a first reconstruction of what happened to the young man and would have tied an electrical cord around her neck, then dropping from the loft of the stay. To find the body was his mother when he came home a little after 17. Any attempt at resuscitation proved vain and for the young there was nothing more to do. The body is now at the disposal of the judicial authorities in the morgue of the hospital in Montagnana, but it is unclear whether the remains will be subjected to an autopsy or not. The story investigating the police station montagnanese - which is part of the company Este - which are now occurring on the site of the discovery to the findings of the rite. Suicides are often called " cowardly". What a crock of shit. It takes balls of concrete to actually do this!!!!! Poor girl- she was far too young. I agree with that completely and I'm speaking as one who's been there. At 19 I'd decided to kill myself (I'm waaay older now!) It was a clear, rational decision not based on a whim. The idea first came to me on my 8th birthday and from that point on, my question was why live? What was the point? It wasn't that my immediate circumstances sucked. I knew people who had much worse things going on in their lives. It was deeper than that. Life itself just seemed so pointless. At every level including spiritually. I'd studied world religions and concluded there was no God and given that you get old, decrepit and die anyway there really seemed to be no point. I was going to shoot myself in the head and worried only about how I could minimize the mess for my father to clean up. Oddly, the idea of killing myself made me feel happy and relieved. I was determined that at the first opportunity, I was going to do it. I told no one. There was not going to be a note. I had no anger at anyone--I just wanted to cease to exist. Well, the God I didn't believe in intervened in a supernatural way (for which I'm eternally grateful!) It was a true miracle and a story by itself for another thread. But as I sat in this suicide prevention training, I wondered if someone who'd been trained to see the signs had asked me if I was going to kill myself at that time, I think I would've been soooo stunned at the question that I would've given something away in my reaction. And that's exactly why you can't mince words and worry that you're going to hurt someone's feelings or that you're wrong--ASK DIRECTLY!!! ARE YOU PLANNING ON KILLING YOURSELF? ARE YOU THINKING OF SUICIDE? Your directness may save someone's life! Last Edited by telling it straight on 05/06/2013 10:35 PM |
