Can't take it anymore! There must be a solution. I have cats and a dog, so the 'solution' must be safe for children & pets. I know there must be several GLPers who have dealt with this issue. Please help a household of squeamish 'girls' !! Eeeeeeeeeeeee. LOL. You have a crawl space under the house? If so take some stuff called Boric Acid, you can buy at Lowes for like $3 a bottle, and do a line all around the foundation inside then start in the back corner and spray it into the air as you walk back to powder under the entire house. Once you're done you can then go into your home, again spray a perimeter line all around your home and then do a lite spray over your carpets (don't go high into the air to avoid getting it on counters and stuff) for 2-3 weeks then vacuum it up. I do the Boric Acid under the house/addict every single year to keep them out and I see no bugs/spiders at all. Boric Acid is a dehydrating agent so it's 100% safe for kids/animals to eat and even if they ate half the bottle they only NEED to have water at their disposal to prevent any harm. Spiders/ants/etc will get it on their feet and when they clean themselves off they can't get enough water and thus die. It wont kill mice or rats so it wont harm small children or lap dogs/cats. We have lap dogs (Maltese) and we never had any issues when we had to do it. I also did it when my Collie was 3 months old and she rolled in the stuff daily and no harm ever came to her (lived to be 15 years old) Check the stuff out...it's safer then anything you will ever find for this job. Wow Great INFO. Thanks so much for posting. There are so many goood ideas I don't know which one to pick! You are my sun, my moon & all my stars. ~E. E. Cummings |

(OP) User ID: 31326177 Canada 05/07/2013 03:22 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I recently found a brown widow and its egg sac in a bike that was in the living room - it was an old one I was beginning to fix-up for my son and there is nowhere to put the bike but the living room where we live. Sure was GLAD to find that before they hatched all over my house! Quoting: Geo777 Last time I moved, found black widows, and other spiders, just hanging out in my teen son's closet - not good - and also in there, were many rolls of gift wrapping paper - I happened to glance inside only to find a LOT of spiders like to nest in the dry cardboard wrapping paper tubes! Check your tubes or, yikes... Ohhh. You poor thing. Must have been awful. I will check........next month. shudder. You are my sun, my moon & all my stars. ~E. E. Cummings |

(OP) User ID: 31326177 Canada 05/07/2013 03:27 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | OP, Quoting: Meadow1 Mix equal parts of confectioners sugar and boric acid in a plastic bag. Using a plastic spoon, place a small amount on little pieces of foil. Place the foil inside cabinets, and other places the pets can't reach. The boric acid will dehydrate them, and the sugar will clog their legs and bodies. Sure death. It will kill ants and roaches as well. Also, you might try this: Most house pests hate eucalyptus oil, peppermint oil, and citrus oils like orange or lemon. Add a few drops to a spray bottle, add water, shake and spray around doors, cracks and crevices. Repeat twice a week. Anything harsh smelling that we don't like, the spiders will not like as well. They don't like the smell of apple cider vinegar. Spray ac vinegar around the kitchen or places you see the spiders. Some of the smaller roach baits will attract spiders, pick up a few of those and place them up in high areas. On the fridge or behind the stove. Finally, buy some sticky tapes for insects. The spiders will crawl on the tapes, become stuck there, and you can bag the whole thing and throw it away. You can make your own sticky tapes from masking tape. Just place the tape sticky side up, and trap the spiders. Good luck. Great IDEAS !!!!! I can do all that stuff. Ahhhhhhhhh Sigh. I feel alot better about my spidey sitiation now. I get pretty hyped up about the whole thing. I just knew GLPers were the answer. As usual: YOU GUYS ROOOOCK !!!!! You are my sun, my moon & all my stars. ~E. E. Cummings |

How are you today It's an absolutely beautiful day! We have HUGE cane spiders here in Hawaii but the centipede *shudder* is by far the evilest. Anonymous Coward User ID: 1502149 United States 05/07/2013 03:51 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have a rule with spiders. If they stay on the ceiling, they can live. If they come down any closer to me than that, they are a goner. I see them on a regular basis, but not enough to warrant gassing the house. The sugar ants are the bane of my existence, though. |

Of course the best solution would be something that would be non-harmful to them but would simply 'drive' them away - wondering about the post from someone above talking about peppermint oil, and how effective that might be... Here is what I do when confronted with such an issue: I say a little 'prayer', talk to the insects if you will, telling them that I would like them to leave (I know, sounds silly, but for me, essential for spiritual sense of peace about it), and that if they don't, I will have to take measures to convince them to. I usually send out that thought for a couple of days, and if I don't see any change by then, I will take drastic measures against one of the suspects, in a manner that is quick and hopefully painless, leaving the body behind as a "sign" to the rest that I mean business. After another day or 2, if they have not gone, then I feel as though I have done my part as a conscious living being to let them know of my intention and take whatever measures necessary to remove them. One exception to this is extremely poisonous or dangerous spiders/insects, like black widows and brown recluses : I will kill them (with a prayer for forgiveness) if they are anywhere inside the house, as I too have pets and children and can't risk them being bitten.
