6.4 earthquake Iceland!!! With swarm at Reykjanes Ridge!

I don't know why it hasn't been mentioned on USGS yet?

Not huge world wide. But HUGE for Iceland. Look at their chart, it only goes to 5 magnitude!

If you followed EQ activity in Iceland for several years, you'd know this is pretty unheard of.

That site is Iceland's official earthquake site. It happened in their country so maybe not surprising they acknowledge it first.

The earthquake shows under the region 'N-Atlantic'. (To the left of web page you'll see a list of regions within Iceland). This takes you straight to N-Atlantic region:

I think I rembember a 'large' quake there for some time ago also that was really odd, but then turned out to be incorrect and was of a less magnitude. Just saying...

6.4 Earthquake does not show up on Iceland tremor data but the swarm does - perhaps it was a false report?

We'll just have to see if it gets changed. Annoying if they make that kind of mistake! Unless it was done purposefully by an irate employee who's been given the sack? LOL

when the eq's show up promptly on all monitoring devices within (approx) the same magnitude.... they're usually nothing to worry about.

however, when you have huge discrepancies like this one, with mags all over the place, and some sites not reporting them at all..... that's when the 'wtf flags' should go up.

this is an area I'll definitely be watching over the next few days

6.4 on Wednesday 080513 looks to have been removed from Iceland data. However further renewed swarm with a 4 reported.

Just checked it again myself. Looks like the 6.4 never happened. Not sure how they could have overlooked that earlier when updating it with a new swarm earlier on. Oh well! This thread might as well be deleted because it was obviously a mistake (haha! or was it?? I mean this is a conspiracy site after all! maybe that was the only proof it happened! ;-) No seriously, I'm sure many Icelandic GLPers would be letting us know if they felt that magnitude.

Tsunami? Prob not at 6.4, so what would it have to be for a tsunami to hit, 8.0? and where would this tsunami go? Europe/Canada/US? How big? This is huge!!

USGS shows all in the 4s. I wonder if 6.4 is on something other than the richter scale?

Their computers usually list anything significant whether there's someone on duty or not. Maybe they cut back due to the sequester!
